Hi there
My 1HD-T needs a rebuild, the engine builder told me that the connecting rods needs to be replaced, i have a 1HZ engine from a 78 land cruiser in good condition laying around and was wondering if i can take the conrods from that engine. According to the parts catalogue the part numbers are not exactly identical...

Can anyone tell me if they are interchangeable?

Thanks Jason

From what I've heard (can't confirm from personal experience), the conrods in the 1HD-T are stronger than the ones in the 1HZ, and presumably are needed to withstand the extra pressure the turbo puts on the engine. While I believe the 1HZ conrods should "fit", you'll end up with a weaker bottom end. I'd recommend sticking with the conrods designed for the 1HD-T.

From memory, the wristpin end of the 1HDT conrod is larger than the 1HZ, big end is the same.

It's been a while since I worked on one so may be incorrect but I don't think they're interchangeable.

Not interchangeable.

As above, the wrist pin is a larger diameter in the 1hd-t.

You can do the opposite and use 1hd-t rods in a 1hz IF you use aftermarket turbo pistons made to suit the larger pin.
