It's passed time my 80 had the oil pump cover gasket and crank pulley seal replaced. Does anyone have one of the fabled crank pulley tools that I could buy or borrow ? Thanks!

The @OTRAMM one isn't very expensive iirc. If no one does, that's a good route to go.

I don't think he carries them anymore sadly, I was hoping to use it Sunday if possible.

I have one that I made. You can borrow it if you want to pick it up in Siler City.

I appreciate the offer, but you're nearly two hours away from me which makes it a bit hard

Harbor freight lend lease program? Buy the appropriate sized socket and breaker bar, tie to passenger frame, remove ignition coil wire feeding the distributor, and bang the starter.

Return if broken, keep or return if not. Win win

That is 100% the backup plan, but if I could find a kind soul local with the tool would be even better. Was also considering renting a "Fan Clutch holding tool" from autozone or harbor freight

4 nuts to remove the fan clutch . Be smart and remove the radiator shroud with the fan clutch, and use a piece of cardboard to protect the radiator.

And pray to any and all religious Deities, throw chicken bones, and sing gregorian monk chants while tryin to get the oil pump screws out. I bought a multi pack of milwaukee #3 Phillip's bits, and tapped them into place with a small hammer. Heat with a propane torch will also be your friend.

I need to replace my radiator so figured i'd do all this while i'm at it. Definitely buying some #3 phillip's bits. My biggest concern is actually getting the crank pulley back on and torqued. What did you do to keep it from spinning while torqueing it?

Good that you're removing the radiator. that extra room allows a 1/4" impact to remove the screws. under the truck , remove the plastic transmission inspection cover, place a 14mm wrench or socket (I think that's the size) on one of the bolts on the flywheel. turn the torque wrench/crank to lock the crankshaft. It will keep the engine from turning as you torque it. There are some good posts by @Rice in the onsc forum on how to get an accurate torque setting using a torque wrench and a pipe of a specific length.

Good luck!

I think Ryan makes them in batches. He does it right, broaching the square hole to fit a 1/2" breaker bar how it should.

If all else fails of course.

Amazon has that starting at $28! Nice.

The beauty of that tool I've found is that you don't need jis specific bits. Due to the hammer pressure the bit won't cam out. A jis would be theoretically better, but I haven't damaged any screws with one thus far.

The kits come with a few different sizes of Phillips and flat head, and I've never found a Toyota screw it won't work for.
