How does the choke function on a 1fz-f?

Possible to operate manually?

What about setting up a throttle lock, like in a 1hd-t?

A choke literally closes off the amount of air coming into the engine.
Throttle lock allows you to open the throttle, let more air into the engine, and set engine speed where you want it. Pretty much the opposite of a choke

The hand throttle/ throttle lock in all the 80s attached to the top of the accelerator pedal mechanism in the footwell.
You are just using it to hold the gas pedal in the right spot
No reason you couldn't do the same for a 1fz-f

I do understand those basics, thankfully.

Is the choke on a 1fz-f electronic?

I dont understand how the choke is designed on my carburetor, or how it chooses to function. I would enjoy a good ol simple manual choke, if that engineering exists.

Would l be unwise to rig a throttle lock into the throttle of a 1fz-f, for getting 'er warmed up when its less than hot out, and she'd rather die than idle?

If you understood the basics, you wouldn't ask that last question.
All the throttle lock does is lock the gas pedal in the position your foot puts it in while you lock the throttle.
No different to holding your foot on the gas to raise the RPMs

Well, Galah, do you have any knowledge of the carburetor on a 1FZ-F?

I appreciate your negativity, but would more appreciate your presumed knowledge :)

Just cause l've put a lock on a 1HD-T doesnt mean l'd presume its the same on a 1FZ-F. Please forgive me for seeking wisdom of elders when its so readily given

I've adopted a fuct situation, the least problem being an odd seemingly inoperable electronic choke.

Some genuine knowledge of this particular carburetor is what l seek, and how l may set myself up for success.

I am working thru diagrams trying to figure out what is missing, and what vacuum lines and wires go where and do what. The pertinent issue, after replacing the head gasket and all that entails, is dialing in the carb.

Some of the curiosities l am trying to solve in the pic. At the moment, l am trying to educate myself on how my particular choke functions :) cause it aint manual

You asked two questions.
The throttle lock/ hand throttle is the same in all the 80s. It acts on the gas pedal, not the throttle body/ carb.

As for the carb, no idea.

I appreciate your negativity,

Maybe your last post ^^ should have been your first post. . .

Your welcome :flipoff2:

Try this mate:

I know F-all about carberators unless they are on a lawnmower.

All I can speak for is the hand choke on the 2f engine (60 series). In that case there was a diaphragm which, once the engine warmed up, actuated to cause the choke to act as a hand throttle instead of the choke.
In other words, pulling the choke pulled the throttle linkage as well as the choke flap on a cold engine, but the choke flap would "automatically" open back up in proportion to the engine temp via the diaphragm. I'd use the choke all the time when off roading, winching, parallel parking, jump starting, etc.

I have personal experience with lots and lots of carburetors, but none with an electronic choke. A simple manual choke would be the ticket. This fj70 has a frozen up one installed, but no good w/ the 80series carburated 1fz.

I have just learned the headgasket is blown. So rebuilding an unknown-mileage engine or buying one has become the pertinent issue over my carb desires.

Thank you for the knowledge sharing!!
