I pulled my oil pump today to get to rod bearings to check wear and I noticed on the pump there is a threaded hole with no bolt. Looking at all the pictures I could find there is no part number for anything to go there. Being threaded I would think it would be used. Is it just an open threaded hole that I shouldn't worry about? Is there anything I should check on this pump visually, or do you just clean them up and reuse? I remember reading about swapping gears with each other, etc., but I can't find that information now. Thanks for you help.

Anyone?

I've not owned an early F, just a late F. Can't help with a hole, but i recall that there is a spec in the FSM for clearance between lobes measured with a feeler gauge. You can flip the one gear to get more wear out of the oilpump.

Seems like a mounting hole for the pickup bracket using bolt 'v'.

Both of the legs mount directly to the block, each with a "Bolt V". I went ahead and pulled it apart and the hole in question is threaded but it dead ends itself, so my worry of oil or air running through it are nixed. Not going to worry about it. I have 4 books and none of them show anything bolted there. Still kinda curious what Toyota had in mind.

Just a WAG, based on Toyota's proclivity for off-road engineering in the early days that there might have been an application that called for an orientation clamp as a secondary guide to the pickup screen. Never seen one, but the idea wouldn't surprise me, since they had orientation clamps for plug wires, oil lines, coolant hoses, vacuum hoses, etc.
