Sound like a sweet conversion. I just did a 3B swap in a customer's 40 this week. But I have to inquire as to why one would spend well over $13Kto get 4mpg better mileage? Its a unique and a cool swap, but we aren't lucky enough to get the mileage increase the smaller lighter 40s can get.
You can import or pickup a RHD Diesel 80 for about 15-18k into Canada these days. I agree there are more benefits than just mileage. With no ignition system and the low end torque coupled with an automatic to act as a torque multiplier they make pretty good off-roaders.
One thing I'm wondering is does the FZJ-80 come stock with a 12/24V starting system?
Apparently the JDM Diesels also have beefier drivetrain components from what I'm told. Not sure about that since I've take out 3 birfields in 5 years.
Anyway sweet looking conversion!
I would expect 19 with mixed driving, but I thought all that cruising might yeild a bit better.
UK what 5speed you running? H151F? I can't track milage as we use KMs, but if i can keep out of the skinny pedal I have gotten down to 10l/100km on a few long trips. (55-60) mph average
I think its the H151, or the H150
Came out of a Japanese cruiser. I didnt see any data plate or anything on the tranny
So 100km is roughly 62 miles and 10L is 2.64 gallons so thats what ... almost 23.5mpg?
Not bad. What RPM are you seeing sitting on the highway at say 110kmph (70mph)
I'm 2100rpm at 60mph (gps speedo) right now with the A442F trans, 33" tires, and 4.10 factory 80 gears
