This upcoming weekend I'm wanting to do a 12 quart transmission fluid flush and filter change. It looks like several different people make filters for these transmissions and I understand they're basically just wire mesh but is there a preferred brand of transmission filter people go with as opposed to a factory replacement? Is there an upgraded transmission filter option?

My Land cruiser has just a tick over 200,000 miles and the fluid is dark not brown yet but very dark.

I wouldn’t use anything other than an OEM part in the transmission. I have never heard of anyone using an aftermarket filter instead of the OEM one. The only times I have heard of using aftermarket filters in terms of ATF is possibly adding one inline of the system.

I wouldn't recommend changing your filter, there is literally no point in doing so.
