Nice, but how does being an "original Canadian vehicle" make it importable into the USA? If it were an original American vehicle I would think you could import it, but last time I checked we can't import any of the very nice diesel 80s sold in the great white north.

Hello Matt,
It might be helpful for you to have a look at the ongoing thread in the classified section. See the lazy link immediately above.

Price seems steep, but nothing wrong with trying.

sorry to say he has nobody to compete with.
this would be a nearly impossible truck to get for you folks in the us.
and you can import it. you guys all wish you had hdj81s
this is just as good if not better. Ready to be modded too (fairly stock)
he can shoot for the stars all he wants and i wish him luck.

I guess I just assume someone could get a 1HD-FT imported and converted for less than $20k USD, if not, I guess it would pan out to buy the one in the link above, if you can't live without a diesel. The math will never work out for a diesel conversion like this ever making any economic sense though, so potential buyers aren't looking at it through "practical" glasses anyway.

true. but its funny how people won't go through the trouble and would rather just pay the money. I on the other hand am a bit cheap and would put on in myself. hense why I imported my landcruiser instead of paying someone to import it.
still a nice rig right though.

Best of luck to you on the sale. I totally agree with the comments above by ForealBoreal.

Sorry Jim, I only read through the ad portion. Very nice and unique LX, good luck with the sale.

a 1HD-T conversion done properly and oem correct will cost you a pretty penny. this being an -FT just makes it jucier. this isnt an SBC installed with a painless wiring harness thrown in there with some butt connectors.

what would you pay for a factory locked LHD Land Cruiser thats got just a tick over 100k miles, showroom condition, an engine bay you can eat out of, and gets the better of 20mpg in combined driving? those looking for practical would never look at this vehicle. those looking for something theyve always wanted but could never find on our shores..would. assuming they had the bank roll!

I would pay $10-12k for one. But I don't care much about unobtanium diesel engines. That is just what I would pay for a nice low mile LX. I figured, based on fuel costs alone, it would take me 35 years to break even on a $29k diesel, versus just driving what I have... Definitely going to be a passion purchase for someone. Don't get me wrong, I would LOVE to have that rig, I just could never pay a premium for it, or I would have to have some serious disposable income.

If i had $29k disposable greenbacks sloshing around in my back pocket.......and the concepts of "diesel" and "upgrade from my fzj80" were bouncing in my head---id be using the search button in the MOG classifieds for something with an OM366.

Yeah, I might stick with petrol and just add a Pinzgauer to the stable and still have bunches of money left over... now I'm day dreaming.

I really REALLY don't "love" diesel. Whazzup with all you treating this thing like truck porn? Sure it's got a Toyota/Otto Diesel-pressure-fed motor under the hood but AFAIC no way. Let's face it when we make our dream truck it's usually for us and not for resale. So the happenstance of finding someone else who wants such a thing as this point in time is hard to find. But who knows...maybe a bidding war is about to start!
