One of them was in pretty rough shape, so i decided to replace both while I was at it.

Don't need your kind of help, well aside from dropping the gearbox off to Darin:grinpimp:

Anyway, I got some stuff done on the troopie. Front and rear axles are all built back up to include hubs and differentials. New ARB suspension is on along with all new brake bits and stainless lines. Now comes the fun part. While Darin is swapping in the 1HZ input shaft to my new H55, I'll be dropping the current gearbox and transfer case and stripping the transfer stuff off. While it is off, new clutch, pressure plate, starter, and slave cylinder go on once I get the flywheel resurfaced.

Once I get the new gearbox back from the 'Nam, then I'll be re-building the transfer case and installing the Mark's Overdrive gears and hopefully putting it all back on without dropping the tranny or bending the input shaft on the throw out bearing.

Once all that is done, I put the driveshafts back on and I can drive it around a bit before the next round of stuff. That will be new PS pump, new main and subtank switches and fuel lines, and I'll probably replace the timing belt and tensioner depending on what the existing stuff looks like. I think I have another 40K before it really needs to be changed.

I also have to drop the ARB step sliders and Kaymar rear bumper for either a paint or powder coat.

Tons of fun:cheers:

Do you use TNC Powdercoating over by the Air Station? They were the only place I could find in this area.

There is actually a new place that just opened up in Swansboro, High Voltage Powder Coating on Seth Thomas Lane. I'm stopping over there this week to see what their work and prices look like.

When I lived up in Havelock I used to use Cherry Custom Coating up in Washington NC, Don does great work and his prices were pretty good. He also did a lot of PC work down in Morehead City and used to do deliveries down here, which saved an hour drive

Brand new H55. Smells like candy;)

So, I finally got the split case part way broke down and got to survey the carnage. Seven teeth missing off the high output gear sub-assy:eek:

Here you can see the bolt holes where the stray teeth were chewing on the back-shell and eventually cracked it. The 10-11 o'clock was where the teeth were residing when I dropped it.

I have the new H55 on the building table, just have to pull the bearings and gears on the T-case input shaft so I can build up the new case on the new tranny;)

How in the heck did you break those teeth?

What are your plans for the old broken gears?

Beats me, noticed the metal in the fluid when I went to change it, plus the loose bits cracked the back shell:meh:

Gears are heading to the recycle yard if nobody wants them.

I'll have the whole gear set to include the front and rear output shafts, has the PTO gear also. Except for the hi and lo gears, everything else looks in pretty good shape. Even the lo gear isn't bad, but you can see a little wear from the loose teeth rattling around.

If you want them, let me know.

Yeah man, if you were just going to throw them out, give them to me. They'll make a sweet paperweight:D

Johnny is not going to be there, I think he said he was going to Charleston.

Edit: looks like he is going now.
