You've got company when it comes to busting the knock sensor. I did too! Ended up feeding CDan's dogs for a new one.

Finally got some new tires. I was using the truck more for family trips and less for rock crawling, so I decided on an AT tire. I was planning on getting some Nitto TGs, but once I discovered the Toyo AT2 extreme I was sold.

They look great and have a very aggressive tread for an AT.

I saw your other thread about 295 v 315, what are your thoughts having converted to 295? Is the available power noticeably better?

I'm in a similar situation. I just bought an AT Chaser and I currently run 315s with 4.88's and want to change the wheels on the trailer to match the 80. So now would be a good time to change tires and size all around. Based off of manufacturer specs I'd only lose .75" of ground clearance.

Haven't driven it much with the new tires. I'll be driving up to the mountains soon so I can report back then.

The 315s were good going up the grade with the OD off. Speed was 65-70 at about 2800-3000 RPM (going off memory). Response was good and was able to keep up speed. For a moderately loaded truck, that combo worked well even though RPMs were about 8% higher than stock.

I imagine I would have the same results with the 295s but at a lower speed of maybe 60-65. I'll post some thoughts once I get a chance to head up the grade again.

Here's a comparison of RPM vs gear ratio / tire size. Base of calculations is factory 4.10 gears and 275/70R16 tire size.

Code:
                    4.10 4.56 4.88

275/70R16: Base +11.2% +19%
285/75R16: -5.4% +5.8% +13.6%
295/75R16: -7.3% +4% +11.7%
315/75R16: -11% +0.2% +8%

I also like the 295 Toyos you put on the 80. I have 305 GY Duratracs but I don't know if the size was discontinued so was looking for options. Is the road noise minimal or louder than you would have expected? Nice build and family wheeling pics.

Road noise isn't bad at all. I think the regular version (non extreme) is even quieter. As a point of reference, the wind noise through the door weather stipping is about as loud (or louder). My Corolla with Michelin Primacy MXV4 tires is louder. Yes you can hear them but it's not distracting.

Installed a Front Runner Slimline II rack and some Slee SOF2RH rear springs. From what I understand the Slee springs use the same rate as the OME 863, but are 1/2" shorter. It seemed to level out the truck nicely and gave me that extra bit of clearance to fit in my very low garage with the rack. After loading up the rear with a couple hundred pounds of cargo, it seemed to sit lower in the rear than I would like. I may go back to the 863, but time will tell. Ride is quite nice though.

Took the family for a scenic drive this weekend.

Sold the truck last weekend. Hopefully a decision I won't regret too bad, although I miss it. I am moving into a new chapter of my life with a 100 series. I truly feel the 80 has more character, but the 100 is better suited for longer distance exploration and camping trips with the family. Thanks to all for taking this journey with me over the last few years, a new journey is ahead.

I sold the 40 to build up my 80 for family trips, IMO it does not get much more comfortable than the 80 but that is coming from a guy that drove a leaf sprung over vehicle on wheeling trips for years! lol. 100's are awesome, looking forward to seeing what you do with it.

looks like a partial part-out

Sdnative, you have the best fj80 bumper setup I've ever seen!
Slim, lighter than the most and it just looks great on your 80!! :)

Can I copy your setup? :) and ask you what is your wings dimentions?
Thanks
