1997 Land Cruiser – Deflared –Triple Locked- 35’s -regeared

I have owned this land cruiser for about five years. When I purchased it had 208k miles. It was well cared for and serviced by the dealership. I was the third owner. Second owner had it for a few months. I’ve been daily driving and wheeling this 80 since it was purchased.

Drive train

This 80 currently has 250k miles on the odometer. I pulled and rebuilt the engine at 248k miles. It was starting to puff blue smoke on start up and compression numbers weren’t great. Still ran well, passed smog and didn’t throw any codes. Never the less, I decided to pull the motor. After getting it out it was easy to see that it had never had the head pulled or any other major engine work. The cylinders still had factory cross hatch marks. All internal parts were measured and double checked. Everything was still within factory specs. I sent the head out to have it refurbished and rebuilt the short block with all Toyota parts from the dealership. All bearings, rings, seals and gaskets were replaced. Even replace the oil pump and the oil pump gear bushing. I used all new head bolts from Toyota to torque down head.

I was able to locate a low mile (150k) and extremely well cared for transmission from a fellow mudder. Put it behind the motor with the transfer case (now changes) and lowered the entire thing back into my 80. After hooking up plenty of wires and hoses it fired up first try like it had never been out of the vehicle. The engine and transmission run extremely well. I’ve been driving it for about 3k miles and no codes, strong oil pressure and runs nice and cool.

A couple years back I regeared to 4.88’s. All diff bearings and seals were replaced.

Suspension

I installed a Slee 4” lift with DC front drive shaft. Great lift kit also purchased and installed upgraded slee front steering components and beefy rear lower control arms.

Bumpers and Sliders

Installed White Knuckle Off road Sliders and 4x4 Labs front and rear bumpers. I bought the bumpers as kits and welded the up in my garage.

Interior

The previous owner had purchased a new leather kit and carpet. I installed both the carpet and leather on front and rear seats. Also built a drawer system for the rear cargo area using Baltic birch and ball bearing draw slides. I built a tailgate cargo hatch (copied the idea from a mud post). There is a good stereo system with and amp and 10 inch sub in rear side panel. I added a tuffy box that I painted to match the brown as a center console with cup holders.

Electrical

Added a dual battery system and auxiliary fuse panel. There are several usb and 12 volt plug ins through out the interior.

Auxiliary Fuel tank

I installed a factory auxiliary fuel tank and the dual tank filler neck. I added a Holley fuel pump to transfer fuel from one tank to the other (copied idea from a post on mud). It’s really nice to carry around an extra 14 gallons that transfers at the flip of a switch.

On board air

Installed an ARB dual compressor

Brake system

I installed 100 series brake pads to the front calipers and removed the ABS system. My braking improved significantly. There are many posts for and against this mod. I really like it and will be helping a couple buddies that like my stopping power modify theirs soon. That being said, I did not butcher the brake lines or hack the wiring. The system could be reinstalled with a few hours work

I’ve enjoyed owning and working on this Land Cruiser. AC blows cold and the electronics work. A couple years back I drove up to Sacramento made it through the Rubicon without issue and drove it home. I’d drive this LC anywhere. It’s never let me down or left me on the side of the road.

So why sell? My wife and I recently bought a house and the remodeling went a little over budget. Need to come up with some cash. I also enjoy building and modifying. Looking forward to starting a new project.

Areas that a less than perfect

When I purchased the 80 it had several rock chips in the windshield. None have turned into cracks but there are chips. The roof clear coat is failing. Sides have been repainted and hood, lift and tail gate are still looking good.

16,500 or best offer. Not in a rush to sell. Thanks for looking

Bump because I'm obsessed with that dark blue. Looks so clean

Things don't add up...

You say it has 250K miles, you pulled the motor at 248K and you've been driving it for about 3k miles......that would put you at 251K miles sir!!!

just kidding, nice looking cruiser ;)

Sorry if I missed it. What center console is that (model)? Did you relocate the e-brake?

Awesome rig by the way. :grinpimp:

thanks. I can't quite remember the tuffy box model I used for the console. I built a stand to hold up the back end, got some paint mixed up to match the brown And had the upholstery shop sew up some leather for the arm rest. E brake handle is still in original location. Really nice to have cup holders too
