Saw this in my local craigs list. I AN NOT SELLING this truck, so please do not contact me! Truck is in Scottsdale AZ. and has 98818 miles along with 3Xlocked and looks very clean! The owner has replaced both front seats along with 2nd row seats with new leather. Owner states he had all service done by dealer and is willing to provide dealer service records. Now for the bad part, he's asking $17500.00 for it. http://phoenix.craigslist.org/evl/cto/5166578642.html

Not that its a big deal, but thats not a 40th. I didnt think 40ths came in anything but Sage or Green, not two-tone, and I ran the VIN through TIS and sure enough it did not come as a 40th. Also note the chrome badges and lack of AUTO climate control.

So what are you thinking 89cruiserfj62, that some dealership ran short on 40th ANV. and just made one up? Or do you think some owner, somewhere along the trucks life, just added the 40TH ANV. badges because they though it would be cool? Still, even though it's not a real 40tH ANV. it looks to be very clean, but that's WAY, WAY, more than i would ever be willing to pay. I guess to the right buyer, who's looking for a clean factory original truck, less the fake 40TH ANV. stuff, this one would be a nice one.

Scam

aggiepaintrain,i see what you mean about the photos looking like two different dash colors, but it's the same truck. If you look close you'll see the same marks and defects on the dash in both photos. I think the reason why it looks like two different colors is the angle the photos were taken.

I smell fish. Lots of fish. Definitely not a 40th and if he's lying about that, then highly doubt the mileage is accurate.

Update: seller has lower his asking price to $16.900.00, That's still way more than i would ever pay, but who knows, he still might find a buyer.

The apron stickers are not Toyota. They are reproductions bought out of Australia, likely on eBay.

The U.S. apron emblems read "Limited Edition"...the truck in this ad has "Commemorative Edition".

Also, the 40 on authentic apron emblems is raised and made of Mylar. These are flat stickers.

The emblems on the Sage trucks were a very dark grey...on the green trucks they were dark grey with silver outlines.

The console badge is authentic and came from another truck.

Not that there is any doubt, just writing what I know about next-to-useless 40th Anniversary trivia.

So I'm a noobie, doing the search and destroy....for either an 80 stock to modify or already built for my 16 yo son. Not really for "off road" so much as a DD for him (likes the look) and I agreed LC's are a safe choice (have a 4runner Sport but can't lift it due to hydraulic suspension issues). So Q is what should I expect to spend, I'm thinking under 10k stock and 10-15 built (assuming similar mileage of 120-170K but I'm basing that on ebay! Also, any signif diff in early 80 (91-94) v later (95-97)?
Thanks for input. (i'll put this into Chat area also)

What you've done here, completely changing the subject of this thread, is called a "hijack"- which is frowned upon. Yes, there are significant differences between model years of the 80 series, especially 91-92 and later. See link below. FWIW, I think it's nuts to put a beginning driver behind the wheel of a lifted truck. :steer: Slee - 80 Series Land Cruiser Newbie Guide

I apologize for the unintentional "hijack", rookie mistake, sorry bout that. I do appreciate the input, which is what I was hoping for, just didn't realize there is a better way to get it. Suggestions? Hard to find on this forum but maybe that's not what this site is all about. On the lift issue, I also agree and am trying to convince a 16 yo that maybe its not smart or safe or practical, regardless of what 90% of his friends have. Wish me luck!

Not a terrible hijack as the OP was passing on a Craigslist ad for a truck that isn't his. That said, 80 Series Tech Section is the best place to post/research.

I'd argue that an 80 Series is an excellent/safe choice for a new driver. It is a full-time 4WD tank. The addition of a 2.5" Iron Man or OME lift will make it handle far better than a clapped-out stock suspension...I'd say anything higher than a 2.5 might not be the best option for a 16 year old.

My only issues would be cost of ownership (maintenance), cost of fuel (12 mpg) and the fact that he can fit 4-6/7 friends in there with him...that's a lot of young buck testosterone and resulting peer pressure/egging-on!

The link to Slee's noobie guide and a few hours searching the 80 Series tech section hear will pre-answer most questions you might have.

Good luck!
