I pulled into the driveway today and my car was running rough. Fine all the way home other than that.

I rev the engine and the CEL comes on. Check the code and it says there is a misfire in cylinder #1. I can smell gas or rich exhaust in car. Pop hood while it is running and see exhaust coming from where the manifold meets the 6 pipe.

I’m thinking this is a catalytic converter that might be clogged. What else could cause back pressure that would result in sooty exhaust coming from the y-pipe?

I'd start with the gasket that's leaking.

I believe an exhaust leak will in some cases cause a lean condition (O2 sensor thinking it's running lean) and over compensates by adding fuel... Probably why you're smelling gas.

Replace gasket first and see if that fixes it.

Head gasket is gone. Misfire in cylinder 1 is from that. Odd that I hadn’t experience issues until yesterday but that is the problem.

Also have a leak from the manifold to y pipe but that is just another issue.

You're certain head gasket is gone? Generally they fail at #6, but its definitely possible with these.

I was going to say, try to replace the Y-pipe gasket (PN 9091706065)

I’m getting a 2nd opinion. They said there was “green fluid” on the plug in 1. Odd considering I run Toyota red coolant.

I pulled the codes and cylinder 1 was misfiring.

Oh... drove it back from the shop. When i got out of and popped the hood there was a considerable amount of bubbling sounds coming from the radiator and into the overflow reservoir. I popped the cap on the reservoir and air bubbles were coming out.

When I go up hill the rig gets super sluggish. Guessing this is due to coolant rushing over cylinder 1.

I'll bet it's not HG. I'll bet it's either an O2 sensor or an injector causing an issue.

You describe smelling fuel. That's not HG.

Get a different mechanic. If he claims green fluid on plug, and you're running red, then he's just trying to get in your pants. People that do that s*** piss me off in a way I cannot describe. They are either complete idiots or are rotten to the core.

Do more diagnosis. Get and exhaust gas kit from FLAPS and check your radiator for exhaust gases. The will definitely the issue quickly.
