First off. Saying me power steering has issues is an understatement. I've had this landcruiser for about a year now and it's had power steering problems since day one. I finally decided to replace the pump because it was the most logical option in my book. That didn't fix it so I replaced it again thinking I had a dud. Still no. So I finally replaced every single line hoping that would fix it. But to no avail. My reservoir is gushing power steering fluid about 4 feet in the air and hitting my hood, and when just idling it spits it out acting as if the pump was pumping backwards, which is impossible. So now I'm lost and everyone i know has zero clue in what's happening. It also has a new steering box in it

Are you using an OEM Toyota pump or a cheap knockoff? I’d start there if it’s the second. And where is the new steering box you mentioned from?

It's a cheap O Reillys pump, and the box is i think an O Reillys also but it's the top one, I was told it was 700$ so it should be fine. I'm gonna take the pump back and get a top line. But I dont have the funds for a OEM pump yet alone a box. So that's what I'll try first

You may continue to have problems with any of the aftermarket pumps from orielys/napa/autozone. Lots of threads on this forum documenting problems with these pumps. Get the OEM from Toyota and save yourself some headaches. This will be the third time you replaced with the cheap pumps. Between your time, the truck being down and the frustration of having to still deal with this…itmay be worth the price that could be solved with the correct part. Just my 2 cents. I had mine replaced last year with OEM, price wasn’t too bad, and should last another 30 years like the original one that we pulled off.

Well I was looking at prices and they weren't too bad. Got any places you'd recommend to order from. I was looking at cruiser parts.net

I usually order parts from cruiser outfitters parts website called Cruiser Teq. Can reach out to @cruiseroutfit to see if they have them stocked. Price might sting a little, but I think on power steering pumps going with OEM might be the smart move.

408$ for an OEM pump isn't bad at all. Especially considering the O Reillys is 180.

You have not described any symptoms of power steering issues.
Why are you running the engine with the cap off the reservoir? That just makes a mess.

The power steering system self bleeds and it's a pretty simple procedure.
With engine off, fill reservoir. PUT THE CAP ON.
Run the engine for 1 or 2 seconds and shut down.
Fill reservoir. PUT THE CAP ON.
Run the engine for 1 or 2 seconds and shut down.
Repeat until the system is full.
Once the system is full, turn left and right 2 or 3 times, go for a drive, and recheck fluid level in the morning before the first start. Top off if needed and you're done.

The idea is to prevent the pump from cavitating and foaming the fluid. If the fluid foams, let it sit overnight. Most of the air will rise to the top.

I'll give that a shot. But that still doesn't answer the question of why it's having so much pressure going in reverse that it shoots it out the top. I know if fluids foam they'll no longer work as intended because those air bubbles are now compressing.

I work at a dodge dealership with many techs who've been teching for over 20 years and none of them have seen a power steering pump shoot the fluid 3+ feet into the air. The only thing they could think of causing that would be a restriction in one of the lines. But I've replaced personal everything but two items. The steering box and cooler. I dont see the steering box having a plug without having other issues along with it.

But I'm gonna go ahead and replace the pump with an OEM pump and do the bleeding method you said. Because the method i did was turn lock ti lock 15 times and then fire up the engine and do it another 15 times or so
