1992 Landcruiser - strange starting problem

Hello everyone! New on this site and hoping someone can help me out. I have no clue why I have problems starting my 92 Landcruiser. I turn the key and nothing ... no clicking starter, no crank, nothing. But if I try it a few times, it usually starts. Never has left me stranded, just delayed. But then as summer time came, problem got worse. It seems to ONLY happen when it's hot out. Never have a problem at night when the temps are cooler. But if I'm driving it a lot during a hot day, I leave it running because it will not start again. If its really hot it has to set for a good half hour before it starts, and when it cranks it does start right up. Now this is the weird part ... I can spray the engine down with a water hose and it starts!!!??? tested the starter and its fine.

Now just this past week it won't start at all. it will crank but no spark. I'm thinking these two issues are related but I don't want to just start replacing parts without having a clue what the problem is.

Does anyone have any suggestions or had this problem before? I have no clue how to test anything ... is there a way to test the ignitor? What about the coil? Where should I start?

Welcome.

You should post this in the 80 series tech section. Assuming you have a FJ80.

I think this is a very common problem but very easy to solve. I believe it is your EFI relay located under the hood on the drivers side in the little plastic black box. Post in 80 series section or search EFI relay in the search area.

I had same issue it was starter relay switch. Now I have some other issues but that small fix helped me with what you are talking about.

Does your check engine light come on with the key in the on position? If not check efi or fusible links like previously stated

Starter not cranking is completely unrelated to EFI circuit. You can remove the ECU and the starter motor will still crank.
The starter circuit is very simple. The load side of the starter is connected directly to the battery. The logic side runs from the ignition switch to the NSS to the starter. There are no relays in this circuit.

You said, "tested the starter and its fine."
How did you test the starter?
Was it hot when tested?

Crank no start is a different problem

Yes I know it could be a million things but that's were I'd start

I had the same trouble a while back and it was nothing more than a loose battery connection.
