ok, lets hear your plan on where you will be mounting it. Very curious. I assume you will be running some sort of electrical fan instead of ram air. Will you have a cold air intake delivery to the inter-cooler fan? And don't tell me to be patient! ;) I have read through the inter-cooler thread for the second time now, still debating on the best way to go about this. I like the idea of a modified Radiator so an inter-cooler would fit or perhaps something like you are talking about. A cool box that would grab ram air or at least non engine bay air and direct it over a remote mounted inter-cooler with a fan. The box could house the pump too, just to keep all the wiring clean and together. My only concern is the size of the thing and where to mount it.

I really wish we had the space for a setup like this. Looks perfect.

"... at some point budget becomes a factor." The horror! You might want to move away from the 70 Series platform. Sequoia?
I have learned that if you don't keep receipts you can pretend it didn't happen. Beer seems to help also.

Just kidding. :)
I hope to start the project in about one month when Rob is through repairing a customers wrecked 80 Series. I will gladly post photos and details on everything Rob doesn't deem proprietary.

"Rob doesn't deem proprietary."

Is that part of the deal? No pictures allowed of your own vehicle if he works on it? There is nothing worse to me than the D bags who lurk on mud, using knowledge gained here on the forum to work on, design, modify, etc., then in turn never post up anything in return. I have even heard stories of guys who refuse to share info when asked about something they did, stating it's "Proprietary" , yet they mined the knowledge right here on mud and in some cases have outright copied it. I am not saying that Rob does this, but when I hear that word "proprietary" It gives me that irked side eye look on my face.

That's the beauty of the A-W Intercooler. It doesn't need to be placed in the grill. The aux tranny cooler is already installed.

I had a friend mount his radiator under the car. He made a new cross member with fairings from aluminum which bolt bolted to factory location. Granted this was a track car, but it was super slick. Getting creative is always good!

This is normally the type of post I don't respond too but there are several issues that need to be addressed plus I'm tired and a little pissed .............
If you'll take time to read through this entire thread or for that matter any of my threads you won't find ONE POST written by Rob Smith. There is a very a simple reason for this, Rob Smith is not on 'MUD nor has he ever been to my knowledge so to make the leap that he is a D bag who "lurks" on 'MUD shows a certain ignorance of the subject. I would further challenge you to find one product that he "copied" while lurking on 'MUD. I honestly believe I have been very forthcoming with work that was performed on my Cruisers over the years and have withheld VERY LITTLE if anything. For someone to basically declare that I or Rob owe them anything in the way of photos or technical information shows a sense of entitlement that borders on unhealthy.
Now this is the important part. Rob owns a small, one man shop that is perhaps the best kept secret in the Cruiser community. He is indeed "my mechanic" but first and foremost he is my friend and it is a distinct privilege to know him.

I think my post came off as an unintended accusation. My apologies Charles, that wasn't my intent. I have never had a mechanic before so what do I know? The idea that one would not allow pics posted gives me that skeptical feeling. The D bag comment was referring to some other people who have been on mud in the past, not you or your mechanic. After re-reading my own post, I can see how I made an ass of myself. Carry on.

Folks: MUD is a repository and a community.

If it were not for the collective information here that we can ALL glean from MUD would not be what it is.

I've been interacting on MUD for over a decade now. My best friend in the entire planet I met on MUD (old curator dude...you all know him).

Information has to be free flowing for the notion of community to work and exist.

So let's get back on topic and form.

Although I see no value in beating a dead horse, I feel as though I have more than held up my end of the bargain. I'm also a firm believer that some opinions are suitable for this forum while others should be expressed in a private message only.

We're going to hook up a mechanical water temp. gauge on the OEM radiator next week to see what's the temps. are really doing. The OEM water temp. gauge has some significant movement with sustained high EGT's and I would like to know how that translates into actual water temps. Plan to leave the gauge installed for a while after the new aluminum radiator is installed to see the difference between aluminum and OEM.

My two daughters are home for the Summer so I now have free tech support for all things electronic. This includes showing me how to take large / high resolution photos. (2.4MB)

Ideally you still want your a/w radiator behind the grille. It's going to work a lot better mounted there vs somewhere out of direct airflow, fan or not.
