Hey Guys.....

***EDIT: OK so it appears to make this happen I'll have to do a half cut...... Any takers?***

The Truck....

So I have a 1990 HDJ81 with a 1HD-T and a standard 5 speed Tranny that was put on its side. The Body is in really good shape (except for the passenger side of course), interior is mint (grey cloth), it runs and drives perfect. It has a brushed aluminum bush bar, and 33" Geolanders with about 80% tread left. 122 000 KM. It has been deemed non repairable by the insurance company, and thus cannot be fixed and re-registered.

The Story....

So I had already sold the truck to Workhorse (aka Ross) about 6 months ago and it took us this long to get our S**t together and make the swap. So he drove up from Colorado, and I went down to meet him at the border (about 700Km from Edmonton). We make the swap and he gets ROYALLY F*#%&D buy the border crossing gaurds. He had been in contact with them many times, and we had all the neccicary paper work. But some guy power trips and decides to not let him through. Not only that this guy black flags his passport, and now if he even tries to cross the border with something resembiling a Land cruiser they are probably going to arrest him. Thus I have my truck back and Ross has his cash!!! (I couldn't sleep at night if I left him hanging!!) I'm sure Ross will vouch for the condition of the truck, he drove a damn long way just to take a RHD 5-speed for a quick cruise around a parking lot.

So the moral is, this truck CAN go to the states (as I know others have done) but it will have to halved (or something similar) first, so they can't say oh your just gonna fix it and drive it (what a load of ****! to register it you would have to get an inspection, and a few red flags might pop up when the mechanic spots the steering wheel on the wrong side). If you do your homework this can be done, and if you need I can put you in touch with someone who could help. I'm trying to keep my frustration level down here, or there would be alot more expleetives.

So I am now in need of getting rid of this thing semi quickly. I don't have the time to part it out, thus would perfir to sell it whole. I will help cut it in half if need be, but can't do it myself, nor do I have a way to transport it once this is done.

When Ross and I did our original research 6 months ago we were told by a few guys here (and other places) that with all the parts this has $11,000 is a fair asking price. Now, as I am in a bit more of a hurry, I'll accept any reasonable offer.

If there are any questions feel free to ask.

James

If it doesn't sell, I would be interested in a few parts! So....... if or when that time comes let me know.

Hey One

Not to point out the obvious, but it would be much easier to sell it to a Canadian who wants to part it out or only wants the engine/trans... I would be interested in some parts if they become available.:) I would be calling Sheldon at G and S Cruisers as they are known to buy write-offs similar to yours.

James,
i am the guy you and your buddy chatted with last night over the phone.
so the Waterton lakes crossing couldn't be done either? what happened there?

yank the engine tranny and elec and diffs, stick them on a pallet and ship them direct to him. done.

part out the remainder and scrap the rest.
that eliminates the powertripping border patrol.

If you are interested in parting, I disparately need a few parts. I live in Calgary and will be in Edmonton in the next week. I can pay cash. Please pm me or call me and we can work out the details.

I know it can be done and I know it has been done but the way I read the EPA and DOT import rules, you cannot legally import that diesel engine into the US as it's only 18 years old and doesn't meet our emission standards. I don't really care if you or someone else does import it; I just wanted to point out what I've found out in researching the issue.

Importing ANY diesel engine into the states is a s easy as 2 words: industrial use.

If it's coming in as a "forklift engine" for example, you are golden (exempt from those pesky regs).

Look up RufustheDufus on this forum, he imported my engine from Canada to the US glitch free.

Craig.

Yes, I'm aware of that exception. Have you seen the penalties for being caught with that engine in a vehicle, on the road? I decided it wasn't worth it....and I would be using it primarily in Alabama....but that's just me.

I know it can be done, and I have talked to people that have shipped entire trucks before, we just ran into a guard who decided to power trip and F**K us over. Ross's passport was even flagged, he can't cross the border with anything resembling cruiser parts or he may be arrested... Jack ass border guards.

I have talked to Sheldon and may go that route of all else fails.

Thanks guys...

ummm, i have yet to find a forklift in the states that has a HDT in it...
that exception is for diesel engines that are already in the states...

I have driven this truck and can vouch that it is in very nice shape. Starts well, runs well and drives well. I wish that I would've known that I was being lied to before I drove 1000 miles to be detained for a few hours, called a liar and told to go F myself because there wasn't any way that this truck was coming across-PERIOD. Months ahead of time and every couple of weeks there after I talked to border gaurds, supervisors, everyone short of the border port authority themselves to hear that I was in the clear and would have no problem. Thanks Uncle Sam.

This truck is perfect for a swap. Everything is there and all is well. I wish I was the lucky guy to be looking at it in my driveway on my car hauler right now. Again, thanks Uncle Sam.

fuel for fire here... I had border problems as well, but the border patrol themselves found a footnote on DOT that an engine not connected to a vehicle is not an engine but a collection of parts. just a thought. (they let me through, btw).

I'm interested in the spare tire carrier with all the interior brace, if shipping to the US is possible.

I'd be interested in the tire carrier, front bumper, front left seat belt, and possibly the headlights. Of course getting that stuff to the US may be a challenge.

wow, it looks fine... damn bastard insurance companies... corporate dictators

1HDT - I would be interested in a half-cut

Price?

Dan

Hey Dan,

I really don't have the facilities to do a half cut...... Sorry
If you know someone that can, your welcome to it.... Price is listed above.
