Friends and family!
First timer here with a freshly purchased 1989 FJ62 with 3F Carb and glorious 5 speed manual.
The issue is simple, I cannot, despite much research, find the sensors needed for my cruiser.
Coolant temp sensor has snapped off leaving a O-Shaped green connector and random wire hanging.
Oil pressure sender wires are destroyed and need replacement.
These are the most pressing issues I have at the moment, but don't worry....there will be more.

Disclaimer:
I am working in Riyadh Saudi Arabia atm, parts, competent mechanics, and dealers are scarce.
Also, there is no VIN anywhere. Frame, door jams, dash have been checked.
Yes, i have scoured the forums for days in search of information.
Photos attached for clarity.
Your help is greatly appreciated!!

I appreciate your feedback gentlemen.
The little bit of information put me on the right path I believe. I've got quite the order coming in from RockAuto all the way to Saudi Arabia.

My latest issue is trying to find the correct carburetor rebuild kit.
It's an Asian carb with the code 8J18 stamped.
Any resources I can look into?

I also went after the differentials and found a good amount of metal. Including one good tooth chunk. So that rebuild will be coming soon

I have a 3F in my 55, and went through this a while back. As @RevISK mentions, contact CruiserTeq and give them your VIN and they can look up the specific 3F rebuild kit which it may need. Whether or not it is available is another issue. I couldn't find the one specific for mine, including at PartSouq or at Amayama - they were/are NLA. I ended up buying a couple kits on eBay to pick and choose the best of the two. Of note, the accelerator pump should be the same between the 2F and 3F and interchangeable (at least mine were), and you can get from CityRacer or Cruiser Teq. I believe the Aisin float you can also get separately. Similar with the secondary diaphragm. I mention this because the quality of these may be better than what you get in the kit - at least from what is now available.

The two kits I got and utilized were:

I didn't do my carb rebuild but sent to one of the masters, @65swb45, at Mark's Off Road. He mentioned that the kits looked and worked nicely without issue.

I hope this helps...

Perfect, I managed to put together a list.

So i cleaned the carb up to prep for the rebuild since it was just covered in grim. (Parts on the way)
Now I have an over fuel issue I believe.
Coal rolling might be an appropriate term.

Have you tried leaving the carb in a bucket of some sort of cleaning agent? Or kerosene even?
The carb guru I asked to rebuild mine said he would only make a hybrid from a china made reproduction carb and install parts from my original in it.
He said the throttle shaft bushes can be difficult to remedy, and also the needle tipped mixture screw seating. I want to keep it all original so that option isn't for me...
I hope you can rebuild yours with the correct kit. Please let us know what you end up doing! (I likely will be doing the same soon!)

I ended up running most of the carb parts through an ultrasonic cleaner, and it made a huge difference in removing the built-up gunk.

That said, I’ve noticed something interesting—the engine seems to be racing at idle, yet none of the idle adjustment screws are even touching. This leads me to assume I’ve got vacuum leaks throughout the system. After 35 years in the Saudi Arabian desert, rubber and plastic don’t exactly age well. I have a full set of vacuum tubing on the way to replace everything I can, along with rebuild kits for both the engine and carburetor, a new fuel pump, filter, and a few other essentials.

Oh, and did I mention the interior was completely filled with goat poo and urine? 🤣

Finding parts for this Cruiser has been a challenge. As a GCC-spec 1989 FJ62 with a 3F carbureted manual transmission, I’m learning she’s a bit of an oddball. It’s entirely possible she’s been “Frankensteined” together over the years.

@FlightRisk973 - you can also pick up a NOS 3F carb from @TeamJB if they still have one. I have one of his on my 55 and it runs great - allowed me to keep driving while old one got rebuilt.

Shipped out of Dubai if I remember correctly so not far from you.

I'm very confused,
I pulled apart the engine to double-check, wear and tear and to replace gaskets.
After I look at my head and block. They don't match each other. And the gasket doesn't fit either properly. But it is exactly the same gasket that was already on the engine.
Did the previous owner replace the engine or head block??
I appreciate the help

Is that an OEM headgasket? When I did my headgasket on my 2f, aftermarket ones I bought did not fit well either. Some port holes were different. Go OEM. Also check casting mumber on head and block to see if they are compatible. Were you having any overheating issues?

Alrighty then—found the overfueling issue. Turns out I might’ve reinstalled one of the butterfly valves in the carb upside down. Oops. After correcting that, the engine is now running pretty darn well, all things considered.

I’m still tuning the carb, but without many of the proper tools—I'm doing all this in a parking spot outside company-shared housing, so it’s very much a DIY situation.

So far, I’ve replaced the head gasket, manifold gasket, and cleaned and resealed the oil pan with a fresh gasket. Whoever was in here last went wild with the RTV—it was everywhere.
The cooling system has also been mostly rebuilt. Judging by the look (and smell) of what drained out, I’m pretty sure it was just tap water in there for years. The rust was palpable.

That said, the engine now has a noticeable ticking noise. The valves have been adjusted, and it doesn’t sound like a knock. The ticking seems to be coming from the back of the engine or possibly further down the drivetrain. I’m currently on vacation and will dig into it more once I’m back, but if anyone has ideas in the meantime, I’m all ears.

On a separate note, I’m trying to track down a missing sensor—part number 89428-60050. No luck finding a replacement so far, new or used. If anyone knows of a compatible alternative or where I might score one, I’d appreciate the lead.

One lingering mystery: there's a green and white wire with a burnt tip that appears to be part of the bundle going to that missing sensor. Any idea what that’s supposed to connect to?

Lastly, I’m getting no coolant temp readings on the dash. I’m assuming it’s related to the missing sensor or that burnt wire—but has anyone dealt with this specific issue before?

Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated—thanks in advance!
