Howdy all,
After careful consideration I am putting my 1988 HJ61 up for sale. This is my daily driver and it is registered in Colorado (passed emissions in August) and I have a clean title in hand. The demands of being a husband, father, public school teacher, union thug, and fishing guide just do not leave a lot of room for "amateur backyard mechanic" as well. I have owned this cruiser for 3+ years and have always kept the fluid levels fresh, including oil changes and fuel, oil and air filter changes. I run the high mileage Rotella in it. There are 408,000 Kilometers (253,000 miles) on the odometer. The sun roof works and is leak free. The interior is in good shape save a little wear on the driver side interior door. The exterior is in good shape but is starting to get the cancer. There are some small rusts spots forming but nothing rusted through. It has after market rims that came with it when I bought it and has 31" Hankooks on it right now. It has a mechanical oil pressure gauge installed because the crappy dash mounted one stopped working.(known issue; this is a good after market part!) The radio has never worked, and I didn't want to bother with putting in a 12v system so I just use a JBL bluetooth system and my phone for music. The 4wd system is in good order. The 12ht 4 liter turbo diesel runs strong and it starts every time. It does have a slight oil leak that I have not tracked down. The dual batteries are in good condition. The torque converter is leaking a little fluid and the A440 automatic transmission is starting to slip going from reverse to drive and back again. It usually only happens when it's cold. Zach at Zach's Transmission shop in Longmont, Colorado has rebuilt A440s for other Ih8mud members and his quote was between $2.5K-$3.7K depending on the condition of the planetary. This HJ61 is a RHD. It also has the original diving board front bumper and PTO winch. It is almost totally stock except for the wheels. I love this old diesel, And I think it is in really good shape for its age, but it's time for me to be honest about what my family and I need as a vehicle and pass this on to someone who has the time to put into it. As I said, this Cruiser is almost totally stock, unmolested and ready for your mods and upgrades. I'm asking $7000.00 for it considering it needs some TLC and probably a fairly major transmission repair. If you're going to import one from Aus your proabably looking at twice this price. I'll post some pictures tonight. Someone is about to own a bad ass Land Cruiser.
