Have you confirmed if any work has been done on the quarters? I don’t see the original body seem. Should be where the red arrow is pointing. One on each side. possible they are not showing up in these pics. Not a reasin to run but would always like to know what’s been done to the metal.

What's with the silver paint?

But it does look like a decent truck. I do suspect it has had significant work though. The rear tail light lenses are faded aftermarket. Originals would still look ok. Body seam is wrong, front bumper is wrong. Seats are wrong and mis-matched. Look it over VERY carefully. Wheels are unusually shiny too. Might be a good truck under the weirdness, but make sure they are not trying to hide a pig in a poke. 125k miles seems too few.

As long as you are sure the seller isn't trying to pull a fast one, it could be nice. But honestly, I think they are lying about the miles. Approach with caution.

When you pick it up, take a magnet and look for bondo.

Hello! I am pretty sure it has had work on it, but it seems to have been good work. I do know it has bondo on some places; the owner was honest enough to tell me that he dinged the front right bumper fender, and if you look into the fender (inner side) you can see the fender wasn’t damaged much.

Seats,,, yeah.... sucks. Front were replaced with other vehicle seats. Rear bench looks pristine.

I did manage to crawl a bit under the truck, and did not see much negatives, and what found funny was that the old gentleman selling it was that he liked the truck color, he painted the chassis as well, outside and inside!!! Chassis looks solid, no rot I could see where I looked.

Axles, tranny, transfer and engine did not seem to leak after warming it up and running it... THAT we’ll see after the 2.5hr ride back home, with a steep highway climb from South (Ponce) to North (Caguas)... THAT will be the real test!

For $5k, there aren’t many instances in which you sure can’t get a truck like this in PR.... I just hope that it is in fact a good buy in the long run!

Thanks for the tips!

Here’s a reference point on the seam. The mud can do wonders to make a freshly painted vehicle look good. I have a brown

BJ60 (Canadian) that looks great (body wise) from 10-20’ cause of a re-spray. And this truck is so rusted it about snaps in half when it’s on the lift :). The whole lower section of this truck is literally rebuilt/shaped with bondo. Not to mention the roof. Just trying to help you out as you get through your potential purchase. Good luck and hope it turns out well.

Thank you all for your input.

Yes, it is not a perfect truck, but I got around to lifting carpets and such, but obviously not able to do a "50 point certification inspection." I am pretty sure it has bondo in some places, but being in the south of Puerto Rico, a very arid area, I am hoping it is not a rust bucket.

I did bang around the panels, and and it mostly sounded sheet metal, but again, this is used 30 year old truck, not a garage queen.

We'll see if the purchase goes thru without any issues, and take more pics... will start by removing seats and carpets, and checking floorpans... I am planning on painting with POR-15 or something to that effect. What do you guys normally use to paint floorpans on a vehicles such as this?

Thanks again!

Jorge

Ospho on rust and Por15 or equivalent. You also have spray cans of undercoating available.

I would check it over structurally real well.

Floor pans? Show us photos of yours when the time comes. You may not have to paint them at all. I'd just paint them with rustoleum in a color close to stock, if need be.

Undercoating for spraying for inside the truck? Or for the underside? Or both?

Thanks

I would neutralize the rust with something like Ospho or CLR or navel jelly or something with phosphoric acid. Then you can paint with a quality paint or coating of any color.

UPDATE on purchase... will not be able to transfer ownership tomorrow Wednesday. Found out that the truck has a donor engine, and is not registered. The gentleman found all of the paperwork, and will commence the registration process tomorrow, as the engine has to come for a "decommissioned" vehicle, and the donor engine has to appear on the vehicle license along with the truck VIN.

Fortunately, it seems I am dealing with an honest person, and will be taking care of it, as he wishes to hand over to me the truck with all paperwork in order. I was really looking forward to picking it up tomorrow, but hey, if there was a glitch on the paperwork, better to get it resolved by the current owner, who has all paperwork and the back story.

Will keep you posted!

Jorge
