I love my 60. It's got 4 blown shocks, non-functioning gas gauge, saggy springs, bad clutch, and it's rusting away. But it's so much fun to drive!

About a month ago now I purchased the 60 as a beater at the same time I purchased the MUCH nicer 1993 Fzj80.

What I don't get, is that the 60 gets WAY more compliments than the 80. In fact, I've yet to have a single person comliment the 80, but have had 4 people stop me and want to talk about the beater. The latest was this morning, walking into work from the parking lot and a very nice looking lady stopped me and chatted my ear off for about 5 minutes on it.

I love my 60 ! :-*

no kiddin man..my tan sprung over 60 with surf boards on the roof does wonders for picking up the chics..ive def got more compliments on it than anything ive ever done...makes ya feel like those hours and hours and hours of work was worth it...i know they were but its nice to hear it now and then...cheers to the 60 man....

oh and doc dont let that 60 rust into the ground we cant have another one bite the dust..

~ride on~

Yeah, but the 60 is way better, more room in the back! ;)

yeah they prob think it s a heep :flipoff2:
jk...

but with the top down its hard for girls to leave there number in lip stick (on the window)

My 12 year daughter has told me that she's embarrased to be seen in my 60. She's becoming a bit too self concious for her own good. Then, yesterday she told me that she was chatting with her friends and the subject of parent's cars came up. One friend described her Dad's old pickup as a major "geekmobile". My daughter added my "old truck" to the list of put downs, at which point one friend replied, "Oh no, that old red truck (my 60) is way cool!" I'm happy she bothered to tell me about it :)

Last summer I made the mistake of waxing the 60 in a public park. (Yeah, I know, "waxing the 60" sounds like a euphamism for something else, huh? ;))

Every ten minutes or so, some honey would come up and say something like "Oooh, I love those old trucks." And my two-year old son was asleep in the back, so I know they must have been honestly commenting on the truck. ::)

Unfortuneatley the 60 I own is way gone- it would easily take 10K to re-furbish the rusty panels, and I might as well buy a new one for that much!

It's a two tone brown, the black along the bottom is bed liner!

buy a grinder..grind the hell out of it.. what ya cant bondo just chop off..put big tires under it and a spring over...have some fun... keep her alive

Well, an 80 is a nice ride; we were looking for one before we bought the Avalon...but LOOK at the 60. There's nothing like them on the road. It's the thinking man's monster truck. It's a station wagon/tank. It wasn't designed in a wind tunnel, it doesn't look like a 4runner, Sequoia, Lexus...it doesn't look like a mall-terrain vehicle.

That's part of why I love mine...

but like 60wag said, women that are directly associated with a 60 don't seem to care for them much. My better half hates mine (I think it's the smooth ride and no AC, or maybe the wind that leaks in on the pass side at speed - mostly she says it's the smell...the exhaust, oil, old carpet, and old truck smell...

When my wife used to drive my 62, she said guys would always wave at her and honk. She told me they never do that when she's in the minivan, she says she misses the 62.

My wife tells me I'm such a geek when I honk at wave at other cruiser owners. I like seeing a chick in a lifted cruiser with fat tires, nothing wrong about that :D

It's kind of funny, I live in a college town where rich kids driving new Escalades and Yukons are a dime a dozen. I never see girls complimenting on their rides, but I get compliments on my 62 all the time. All the girls that I work with think its pretty cool.

chicks are always asking me if they can have a ride and give me compliments. Makes me proud *tear* LOL

That's it, IMO. 80's and 100's have a generic, unattractive modern SUV appearance. The 60 series actually has some class. What I really love about my 62 is that it has just the right mix ( at least, for me) of comfort and no nonsense functionality. I can appreciate that the 80 FZJ may be just as durable, faster and more comfortable. Some people dream of owning a Mercedes, Range Rover, Hummer, what have you. I've got my dream machine, and it's a 62. My wife likes to drive it too. Too bad about the 11MPG though. Perhaps a diesel, with biofuel, will be our future.

When I got rid of my XJ I was really expecting less attention

The XJ was really well outfitted....and it got TONS of attention. But it was like walking around with a WWF Wrestler kind of attention...

Now that I have the FJ, and it's yet to be modified but I get comments and offer to buy it several times a week!

They have SOUL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

FJ60 = family wagon with style
FJ60 = get many compliments
FJ60 = never have to worry about speeding tickes
FJ60 = off-road better than on-road
FJ60 = the best sport utility wagon ever made

Love the 60 as well but I'm chimming in for the real men who drive 55s (at least I do for now). A true cruiser with plenty of room in the back :D Someday I need to get one of each. (cruisers)

The 60 is a very rare vehicle here in the UK. The only comments I ever get is that it looks 'American' and that my dog has got a run in the back (seats nearly always folded down). My wife calls it a coffin with a wheel at each corner - she is not impressed. My 3 y/o daughter loves it... very very big car Daddy ;)

LOL, people notice the 60 because you can't lose it in the parking lot with a hundred other SUV's. People always ask what year it is and they are suprised to find out that Toyota made SUV's almost 20 years before they hit mainstream.

The 40 does get alot more comments & most still think it's a Jeep but in the FJ45 people will stop you at a redlight and ask you all kinds of questions.
