My HJ60 turned 25 today. I've been contemplating the sale for some time and have found a Delica to my liking that has a veggie oil kit on it, for sale. So here's the low down and dirty on the HJ60.
317,000kms on a 6 cylinder engine with an automatic transmission. The tranny's in good shape.
Asking $7500 CDN
Comes with the Old Man Emu lift kit installed 2.5 inch lift, steering stabilizer, shocks. The lift kit installed is a 3500.00 job alone. Also has 32 inch Yokohama Geolander tires and new rims with purchase price of $1700.00. Narrow and tall these things are awesome and make the truck handle and feel amazing!*
If you want it there is an optional plantdrive veggie oil conversion kit. The kit is in the vehicle but not installed. I previously had it on a BJ60 4 cylinder and it ran like a charm. These engines love the lubrication of the veggie oil. It's so easy, you just test the oil for any water (I found 95% of the vats to be virtually water free ), pump out of the veggie tub to the separate fuel tank in the back of the truck. This system can be installed through a private contractor for 750 dollars. I can refer you to him and he will do the job for this price. The normal dealer cost is 1500 for the kit and 1500 for installation. I used my kit for only 8 months before moving into the hj 60. The kit is an extra 750 bucks on top of the 7500.* If you don't want it no worries I'll sell it privately.
Now, here's the good stuff. This vehicle comes with a tonne of spare parts. I previously had a BJ60 and was given a free parts vehicle from my friend when I bought this one. So here are the extra's I can offer should you buy.* I've listed the value of the part used if I was to try and sell it on a Ih8mud or ebay.
Spare automatic transmission-has to be removed from a parts vehicle. It's yours if you want it. the spare parts vehicle is in youbou and I will toss it in as a freebie to whoever buys it. You simply have to get it out. The engine has 450K on it and works according to my friend who gave it to me. There's a tonne of glass and flooring.
Spare muffler $250 nearly new
1 spare alternator $250
1 oil filter unused (free)
One shock that fits the land cruiser. complete with bushings. $50
Brand new rear brakes $100
Spare radiators $200 (from the parts vehicle), $100 (BJ60)
starter $150 (in parts vehicle)
Brand new rear pinion seal $50
Spare light covers
2 spare grills $100
2 CD players (free)
2 spare side mirrors $20
Rear bumper with all the rubber complete.
Now here's the bad. There is some rust on this vehicle. Find me a land Cruiser of this age without rust and you're looking at a 15 000 tag I'm willing to bet. There's a couple of little rust patches on the roof by the rear. 3x1 inches I estimate. Small, but starting. There's a rust patch on the hood about 1x2 inches---hence the extra spare one on the parts rig. This is a 25 year old vehicle after all, so rust is hardly surprising given the age and the climate we live in. The frame: I had the frame assessed at 75-100% thickness by a frame specialist prior to buying. There has been frame re-enforcement done in one spot on the left hand side. This is called plating and has made that side stronger than it even was when they made it. It was done by an excellent body shop in Port Alberni. The inside of the frame was also capped off at this time and this makes the whole rig VERY solid. It's tough and I'd have no qualms about driving it... The driver's side door handles are kinda finiticky. The rear door sticks, and the driver's one is quite loose. If I were you and had time and energy I'd take the doors off the parts cruiser and swap them out. They're in good shape.
If you're not 4x4 ing it and trashing it, this truck will last for many many more years. I would count on taking it to 450 000-500 000 before a re-build of the engine is necessary, and the body will hold up really well til then. The Old Man Emu lift system causes the truck to ride like a magic carpet. It's super sweet. There are new brakes all around, the tires only have 8000 kms on them, the rims are new, the engine runs well, there are new batteries and glow plugs. I'm very sad to sell this rig, but I try to practice non-attachment to vehicles and when they don't meet one's needs, it's time to go. I've lost my job, plan on taking a three month trip to baja next year, and so this has to go asap.*
I've spent 12 000 on this truck in the last few months. Such is the way though. You put a tonne of money into a vehicle and then you have to sell it! If you added up the value of the fact that truck is in one piece and running the whole thing is unquestioningly worth 7500. If you want the veggie oil kit, fine, take it. If not, no worries, i'll save it for another day.
Willing to drive to the US border with deposit.
Pictures available by email. PM your email and I'll send them.
I'm out of email range most of the time, but check in every 24 hours or so. Will attempt to reply back to responses in a timely matter but I'm out in the woods in a cabin without electricity. Yes, the end is near...LOL.
Will try to post pics but have not had any luck in the past on this site.
