Could any more be able to slip through? Was it more the fault of Toyota offering them or savvy, sweet talking buyers just getting them? And why would you ever let it get to "Diamond in the rough" condition. He must have known what he had.

I have talked to a couple of people involved (buyers and salesman) was told a few storie.

Basically PG was bringing them in for the exploration projects and a few cruiser heads got wind and said put me down for one. Kinda a hush hush thing but the salesman would do it (this side was from two guys that didn't own companies) They got phone calls saying they are here come pay $28,000 and get em. So got up there, got them drove to the the hardware store where plywood was bought to cover the wheels and they drove them home (after getting insured) This happened for two of them that went to the lower mainland. The one that I got wind of was bought for the guys personal forestry consulting company and was used as his work truck. The salesmen involved got in a little bit of trouble but it didn't hurt anyone. They were cut off from selling them.

Three slipped through the cracks from what I have been told.

Diamond in the rough mainly on the paint. It needs a few things but has lots of potential. I might do a build thread to document what I did, still up in the air about it. I have had someone familiar with cruisers check it out for me and its a one in a lifetime thing for me. Keeping it pretty simple in the big picture.

it was an ooops and no, it won't happen again.
the serial numbers on the new ones heading to the mines are now being recorded and the mine it is sold to recorded. there is a complete paper trail with each new truck as of 2009 (if i remember the conversation correctly)

Yeah I doubt it would happen again. I have ideas how it could get done if I had a large amount of money but I probably won't ever be able to afford one. I know I could get it done where I live but there are still some unquestionable things that I could run into. Not at that point yet. This one is plated and that is the bonus on it in my eyes.

Wait another 25 years and you might be able to buy some of the lhd brand new hzj79s our mines are starting to import

I wonder why they are buying LHD when they are still making RHD for countries like South Africa?

no matter how much money, unless you own a mine, it will not be happening again.

Or a Non-Govern-mental Organization, or a very large private distributorship (Gulf States, South East Toyota), or a large security firm, et al.

There are plenty of ways to get your dream rig. Everyone would have to work pretty odd jobs like Charles.... ;)

I have ideas how to get one or a couple I just cannot afford it.
I understand the process required to register a vehicle for road use and anything is possible.

Hey if you have the money I could get you one just like him.
Wayne could too but I am probably a little easier to deal with :flipoff2:

you will need to get Toyota Canada to approve your idea to secure the form 1 that is needed when a vehicle enters Canada.
Let me know how that works for you, i would be VERY interested in owning a 2009 old body style.

Yes. I am sure something could be done at customs. I have ideas but the famous words of Wayne come into play. Don't invest money you cannot afford to lose.
How are guys like Louis able to register theirs, there is always a way. I would love to own exactly what your saying.

there is a way that is coupled with risk ...
if it is a $10K truck then "damn, that hurt a little bit" but if it is a $40K truck then it is "honey, i am REAL sorry. We can make another kid but for now we have to sell him"

These stories of possibly buying and registering a new Cruiser are where my money could be at. If you buy an older cruiser or a mine cruiser and fix it up aren't you going to be in the $20,000 to $50,000 range anyways? Would an old fixed up ex mine truck be less or more easily registered than a new one? Do you need some sort of provenance that it was first owned by a mine, then all is forgiven in the government's eyes. Could you buy one now and in 15 years let the "unsold" kids register it? Best dad award for sure from those kids.
This is some very good info so far. It seems to point to a government problem for the most part. I wonder how high up in Toyota Canada you would have to go to get one signed for or however it could get worked. A fairly local Toyota dealer has some exotic vehicles of all makes that he has had on the showroom floor for sale. Cobra replica, an MR2 that I did not immediately recognize when I saw it must have been from his personal collection. I wonder if a car guy like that could get one.

Absolutely.

Depends on how in depth you want to go. I am not planning on spending an outlandish budget because I simply cannot justify or afford it. I won't be powdercoating a frame but it will be cleaned up and properly sealed.

I am wondering why they just sell to mining company and not on the open market?

in Canada, the mine suppliers have an agreement with Toyota Canada to import and sell to the mines only.
Toyota Canada will not allow the Land Cruiser truck to be sold to the public, no way, no how.

but

this being said, there is a guy in Sudbury that is bringing in HZJ76 4 door wagons for the mines. Toyota Canada has not given permission for these to come into Canada. It is very hush hush how he is doing it but it is all legal. No, they are not available to the general public.

interesting.

another fact, Toyota makes a removable top 79 series. I mentioned this to Ens and they went to work to convince Toyota to allow them to bring in that version since it is easier to unbolt a top than to cut it off and seal up the sheet metal. Toyota Canada would not allow it.

see a trend here?

Why will they not sell to the general public? You say Toyota Canada will not allow sales to the general public so I am asking what is the reason.

maybe some "behind the closed door" agreement with the big 3?
probably today due to the emissions requirement in North America to keep the diesels out?

i am not privy to that information.

Behind closed doors agreement.
I think safety concerns (crumple zones, airbags ect)
Emissions for sure. There are so much of that s*** in diesels now its crazy, every freaking thing has a sensor and you need to bring it to the dealer to even deal with it.

Its at the point now where a mechanic specializes in something and say ford or chevy makes a product for a professional to deal with that has been trained extensively on that product alone. Its job and product security for some people and companies.
They want you coming to them when s*** hits the fan.

I doubt its a conspiracy. Theyve done their marketing research and their sums and decided its not for North America.
You got the FJ Cruiser ,what more do you want? :D
