I had an 83 chassis from a 40 that got burned in a house fire, sold it to Cruiserparts.net , the guy i bought it from sold the vin tags and title to another guy so there is at least one fake 83 out there.

Interesting. There were about 300 imported the first year and last year of the fj40.

The power steering unit was retrofitted on this….mostly factory stuff with a fabricated pedestal, likely made to accept the mini truck steering box casting as the ps and non-ps 40 series use the same pedestal. Leaves me scratching my head about the definition of “factory”. I believe most sellers have honorable intentions in their descriptions, but as these things enter rarefied air, more and more ps and a/c are showing up. To be sure, the 40 series factory installed a/c option would have included a different and specific radiator, radiator shroud, lower coolant routing, vent air box, compressor mount and location (different than the 60 series 2F version) and some other odds and ends. If you are going to pay for “original factory” make sure you are getting all the pieces.
