Big difference between a four speed and five speed skid plate. Not sure if the BJ/FJ five speed would fit an HJ47 since those never had a five speed.

Looks like the 5-speed gives that extra couple of inches on the front drive shaft where as the 4-speed doesn't. If I put my 4-speed one up where the holes align onthe frame, the t-case drain plug hits the very end of the plate where normally the e-brake drum comes down to fit in that cut out part behind the hole in the skid plate. Looks like it's pretty much that couple of inches off. My 5-speed is a H55f. I thought some of the 1984 HJ47s came out with a factory 5-speed (at least I see some in Australia that say that). Anyway, so do you just have a bunch of skid plates lying around or something!
Are you selling the 5-speed skid plate? If so, how much and where are you? Probably not near me (Southern CA)

No the H55F was never in the HJ47/BJ45/FJ45. Those all used the hand brake on the 8/80+ split transfer case. The floor and torque tube interfere with the hand brake drum the extra length. I know some have modified them to make it work in the 40 series long wheel base but Toyota never did. Short and mid wheel base had the hand brake was the on back axle.
It's the spacer for fifth gear that moved the transfer case further. That moved the transfer case and PTO openings further back.

The crossmember also changed 10/82. It has a deeper curve where the front driveshaft passes above it. Even on the 10/82 HJ47 it changed. Your hub area is also made to fit the H55F. Toyota shows 9/82 end of the previous transmission hump and inspection cover. Yours should look like the lower right. Upper right is a five speed inspection cover. Upper left is the one used 1/79-9/82 on all 40 series. Lower left is a late FJ60.

You know your stuff. I don't except by OJT.
Yes, unfortunately, I know all about the problem with the handbrake drum with the drivetrain being moved back. I had a leak from the seal between the t-case and the drum and it took forever to figure out which seal to put in--the one that goes with the t-case with the H55f or the former one. I put in two new seals (one at a time) to take care of the leak but it never worked. I finally used the same seal that goes with the 4-speed t-case and it stopped the leak. At least that's my recollection of the process. In the process, I also rebuilt the e-brake and had to take off the drive shaft to get the drum off because the crossmember now was too close to slide it off from having to move the driveline back farther. Anyway, everytime I have to monkey with the e-brake drum, I have to lower the entire front drive-line a little less than an inch in order to slip the brake drum past the crossmember. It's a hassle, but gets easier with practice. :)
Anyway, back to the "Are you selling the skid plate for the 5-speed?" and where are you located?

P.S. I ended ip ordering an inspection cover from Cityracer but in the end, wished I had just kept the other one on (had a cut out covered with aluminum and bolted on) because it doesn't fit exactly. Not all the holes align perfectly so have like 4 out of 6 or something holding it on. Once it all has a footbed liner, though, you have no idea what's covering it (hence, I should have just kept the old one on).

So, I sold an 81+ skidplate and didn’t even know it! :bang:

Does the FJ60 inspection cover bolt up to a 10/82+ 40-series??? They look similar but not quite the same.

No it does not. Even the 1/79-9/82 inspection cover is different outline than the 10/82+. I have this piece in my parts still in Australia waiting to ship. Hump higher in a large part of section in front of the inspection cover. Fits both the H41/H42 and the H55F inspection cover.
