Need help identifying features of 82 FJ45. What are the good features? What is it missing? The trim code is PC11. It is in great shape.. If I'm selling it, I leave it as is? Right.. I don't want to do anything to decrease value. Thanks MUD!

If you are planning on selling it, do you have photos of the truck prior to and during the paint job? You want to make sure that any body damage was repaired properly. I'm not sure how familiar you are with trucks from the region but when they've been resprayed sometimes the PO did it to hide something. Have you looked at the floor condition under the floor mat? Your doesn't exhibit any of the obvious signs (often they bondo over the body seams) so that's good.

The "untouched" value has already been wiped out by the respray. My guess is they stripped it down to tub and chassis... sprayed the chassis black and sprayed the body dune beige... and then re-assembled.

It's non-smog. The carb appears new.
It'll be drum brakes all around.
4-speed.
How's the tailgate? Is it the original with "TOYOTA" stamped in it?
Check the VIN against the Engine number, do they match? Many of the J4's around here have had an engine swap at some point.

It's an FJ45 pick up in amazing condition, already in the States. I'm sure you'll have no problem selling it for a nice price.

It has matching numbers on frame and body that corilate to match motor so that's good. The tail gate is stamped. Don't have any photos of work done before auction. But you are correct it has been sprayed at some point. Under the mat was no rust, no visuals that would say it's been cut on or Bondo. I have only had a rust issue with one vehicle out of eight and out of those only two that had resprays. Well I know what to look for now, and why the guys that bought the first ones were freaking out because how original and untouched they were. I have come to realize quick that just because it's refurbished dosent equate to value. Thanks for responding! Gave me a lot to think about.

I would leave the PC11 ... It is unique to Middle East ... Rare to USA
the other 45 I have is a LC11 with carpet no power steering no heater. The 82 FJ40 is a PA11 that has grey cloth interior with factory AC. Have u heard of these trim codes before on rigs from middle east?

Hello,

It appears this unit had fog lights at some point. There is an extra light switch on the dash.

The dash and glove box suggest it is a late 1981 or early 1982 model.

Frame and axles seem repainted, as well as wheels.

My two cents.

Thanks Juan.. I have a pair of fog lights on order, it still has its wiring to the bumper. Good eye on the switch

Hello,

One more thing.

The windshield strip has a chrome band in the middle, referred to as "windshield moulding" in the FSM, which is consistent with the chrome bumper and bezel. An LX grade of sorts.

heater and no AC seems like a slightly odd combo for the area

trany is the H41 with lower 1st.

did not know those paint codes were only a gulf spec(is that what they are?)

a respray on a solid body/frame tan 45 does not really bother me, they were work trucks, this looks like its worked less than most.

still sporting the OEM hose clamps which tends to make me think good thoughts about the PO.....or the hoses aint never been off ;)

The other thing to be on the lookout for is wiring "modifications". Around the Voltage Regulator I see a green connector that looks non-OEM to me... as well as a dangly single wire with unraveling electrical tape. They had done some cut/splice on my harness for a new VR at one point as well.

In this region as the buildup in ground resistance causes items to malfunction the local shops often improvise some interesting solutions. Look on the backside of the fuse block for jumper wires. On mine I found that they had run a short wire across the back of the fuse block to bypass the fuses on mine.

Since you've obviously got a handful of these... and you're obviously looking to sell... you need to clue us in to how we can have a shot at picking one up from you. I've long thought it'd be a nice gig to selectively import some rigs from this region to the USA and sell them "as-is". I love what folks like FJ Company do with the units they pick up and rebuild, but some "as-is" FJ43's and FJ45's from this region would make great baseline project trucks for guys in the States who prefer to DIY their own build.

Your right Joel! I saw a ground not hooked up so I fixed it and it would not crank after that so I unhooked it and it ran fine. I have my mechanic going through it as we speak to address anything, but I also don't think they took any time hooking everything back up after the spray. I relied on my father and a bird dog over there to pick out my first eight rigs, That being said I know what to look for now, so I will hand pick them on my next trip over. yea, I have no problem if I know what someone is looking for to send pics if I find something and see if they are interested. People locally would see the rigs up at the mechanic shop and tell me not to touch them they want them as is.. well I know now why they liked them, I didn't know what I had! If I could I would keep them all, but plan on keeping a 43 and 45. But I have a lot in these first rigs so if someone approached me I would not be a dick, but explain that on my future containers I will have more of a position to offer unrestored rigs ready for their projects. I don't want to insult well informed cruiser family. I'm bringing in tires also...

You had at least 1 in the clasified, very nice rigs and they are from a market I would be interested in. Nice work, I know it's not easy to get them out of the middle east say compared to costa Rica or the like. I am excited to see more

I missed the one in the classified. Cool! And I wasn't complaining about the state of what you are offering, hope I didn't come across that way.

I'm also excited to see more. Glad someone is putting the effort into getting a bunch of them stateside.

Not at all.. You have been very helpful! I will place more in the classified as they become available, I hated to post the last 1979 45 on here because it is not represented of what I have.. I had a lot in it.. but you live and learn! Glad you appreciate what it takes to source and ship these rigs.
