Roof repair is ongoing. Out with the old drip rail and in with the new.

A fair amount of progress since my last post. We had to fabricate the rear wheel wells because they were of course rotted as well. Made a couple of different dies to do my own metal stamping. Tried to follow the original but first one didn't work as well as I hoped because I could only stamp one rib at a time instead of the entire piece at once.

Ended up going with a shorter and slightly shallower stamp because of warping. I went one gauge thicker on the metal so it's super strong and its one piece the full length of the truck instead of several pieces so that's nice.

Well mine was almost nothing but rust from the firewall back. Just take it slow and easy. I really liked the real steel parts as well as the rear sill from awl-teq.

Body flipped back over and underside support rails welded in, ground and epoxy primed.

Underside painted Toyota 416, fuel tank rehabbed, new gaskets, new sender and underside rubberized. Replated pins and new 40mm rubber for the tank straps.

Learned from experience that the tank is a real pain to install after the chassis is on the frame so did it first this time.

So instead of finishing one project before starting another, I've decided to begin the teardown of the new-to-me 82 troopy.

This one is a GCC-spec troopy that originally came with factory air but no heat and manual steering.

Most recently it was used as a school bus in the mountainous western part of Saudi. It's led a hard life. Everything from the cab back is in some stage of decay. But it does have a valid title, which is of critical importance, because here in Saudi, once a vehicle is deregistered, there is essentially no chance of getting it re-registered.

Fair warning, I'm in no big rush to make progress on this truck, so progress will come in spurts. Also, the damage is great, so prepare for some major surgery.

Without further ado, here is the truck in all its glory.

Still making slow progress on the other one and need to do an update on it. But for sure you've got to switch back and forth from time to time just to keep it fresh.

Frame separated from driverrain, blasted, Rust Bullet applied, small bondo work, and painted jet black. Had to replace the rear frame rail with a new one from @Awl_TEQ.

Cut out the spare tire carrier rod hole on the replacement rear frame.
