Here is mine and might be similar to @jesus888

Metal clearly - sides are angled with the drip rail - the ends have holes...

that the bolts go though the holes to secure it - see pic below.

Here is few shots from away - I didn't install it just hung it off the lip. There is a light on the bottom - a cell phone holder and a few power sources...

I took it off thinking it would just cut my forehead off in a crash. - And now I can see and appreciate it's utility.

EDIT - the sides have a lip to that overhangs with the drip rail. forgot that detail. New pic too.

Years ago I had seen some that were probably injection molded. Something like that black pebble grain plastic. They were nicely designed pockets , some had doors for sliding in gloves, paperwork or whatever you had to store as well as a molded face for custom installs for radios of any kind and some vinyl trim to dress the up. Because they were molded to the shape of each vehicle they were made for, they fit beautifully and looked good.

Had to be over 30 years ago…possibly JC Whitney and maybe $129.00 ? I really wanted one but $130.00 was a car payment then.

@OlYellr ..does stuff go sliding left to right or vice versa in cornering?

The shelf itself does not slide, put something up there loose… yeah they would slide with my driving if not secured somehow. Just like setting something on your dash would

Gents, I appreciate the pics and dialogue about these shelves. Definitely something I think I want to explore. Later though. Right now I am about to start the desmog and TBi install

Wish me luck. Desmog and TBI install are commencing…

Your angle looks good. When I did mine being within 8” of the collector and upward angle …it left me only one spot.

good luck from here. Anxiously awaiting your impressions

Been a long 2 days in the heat (no ac cooled garage here). Ha. Anyway, I’m at a good spot. Had a club member @doseman stop by today who had done a desmog before and saved me Aton of time. Thanks man.

Pulled the radiator and man she has seen better days. New one ordered

Was able to get all my vac lines etc labeled to which they go and removed all the smog stuff. Removed and blanked off the fuel pump and all the soft lines back to the ps frame rail. Removed the smog pump and installed the TLC Performance smog delete bracket. Air rail removed and ports plugged. Soft dry mock up of throttle body and adapter.

Well! This guy is posing me issues. Can’t get this booger loose. Stripped out the top of the plug, then welded a bolt on top, then that broke off. Used a bunch of Kroil, heat, and swear words. Nothing. Going to weld a nut on next. Hopefully getting weld in the middle and on the sides will help

Welded large nut did the trick

Whoa, did not expect to see a TBI on mud. I've got one in my 91 s10 (4.3L 262ci V6, single cab long bed 2WD) sitting in the backyard neglected. Maybe this is a good sign to get it running good again... it's got this awfully annoying issue: in cold weather it has a very high idle (almost runaway) and in hot weather it idles low and cuts out like it's too rich. When it's 65° it runs awesome until the engine warms up 😂🤦‍♂️. I've had that truck since I was 16, and the issue slowly started appearing then getting worse a few years ago.

I parked it out back 2 years ago and assumed I would eventually swap to a carburetor and ditch whatever electrical system was malfunctioning. Maybe I should reconsider that now.🤔

Oh yeah there are several here that use them. The current rage though is the Holley Sniper. Lots of folks have installed that

great work, cant wait to hear about how it performs. Yes, the holley's are the go to for sure. I still haven't figured out on my Holley Sniper how to get it to not die when coming to the first or second stop signs. Lately I just let it idle for about 5 min then by the time it gets to the first stop I kinda roll through it. The other day when it was nice and hot and after driving for 45 min I stopped at a light and it died. It started right up and I got home. I checked the filters and they were fine, still scratching my head on that one.
Im always tinkering so I may put my AFI TBI on this fall just to try it to see the difference. Great to see someone else doing it, the starts are the big advantage I am hearing. I also dont want to spend all my time tuning the sniper, just get in and go. Supposedly you can do that too but they are finicky.

@JKIII FJ40 have you tried re-flashing the ssd card and starting from scratch? I have had 2 whacky programs run thru when I was installing it last August. It was by experimenting with the wizard and letting it re-run the codes. Currently, that thing is the BEST fuel input system I have ever used from the Holley 2 bbl back in the 70’s and Rochester in the mid 70’s and the Weber that was on my 40 when I bought it

Just a suggestion

Knuckle47, I did reflash it several times a year ago when i reinstall it after the first epic failure. I previously experimented with trying to smooth out the table but really didn't make a difference. On the second reinstall I slapped it on and after resetting to stock have just been driving it. I've adapted to the cold stall at a stop sign. I just don't have the time to fine tune it and haven't found anyone around here who can tune it. Still, worth a shot to reflash it again and see if there are any updates.

Rear arb locker installed and tested on rack. Will formally test in dirt when I get back home from working out of town. We made it a club tech day about 10 members showed up and most helped with cleaning and removing parts and pieces

Shifted gears this weekend and spent yesterday with a buddies help tacking up and welding a 4x4 Labs bumper. Buddy did all the welding as I am not quite there yet for strong welds. Todays was prep, paint, and install

ARB twin mounted and plumbed up. Was able to use an old bracket I had for a 4Runner. Some small modes and a long leg with some vise bends did the trick. Was able to use all factory threaded holes

Just to keep on track here with keeping track. 116k ish

> Desmog is complete. Used the TLC Performance bracket in place of the smog pump.
> New radiator installed with upper, lower and bypass hoses replaced.
> TBI installed and currently running well.
> Rear diff fluid replaced and new fill/drain 10mm plug and washer
> Front diff fluid replaced and new fill/drain 10mm plug and washer
> DS rear brake wheel cylinder replaced (was leaking). Pulled all fresh fluid to this cylinder. Need to do the same with the others.
> All slip and u-joints greased
> 4x4 Labs bumper installed. Need to mod the latch catch though before SAS. Not enough meat to keep the latch in place.
