...Rig looks good! Nice to see a husband-and-wife team at it. So many times it's, "the wife is threatening to kick me out if I spend more time on my truck..."

Ha, yeah I hear that a lot! I told my husband when we met I didn't know anything about cars and I wanted to learn because every time I had taken my car to an auto shop I felt like I was being sold a lot that I didn't need. I figured if I knew more I could filter through what's a sales pitch, what's really necessary, and what I could handle on my own. We started this project because we wanted a daily driver that we could use for towing, hauling signs at work, camping with friends and pets, and still be able to commute without breaking the bank! Granted, I don't think I fully understood HOW MUCH work it would be, but I'm happy to learn something new and spend the time with Mik. We're kind of strange because we work together all day and still want to hang out together at the end of the day!! I think that's how it should be, but that's just me! ;)

details, details!

This was the weekend of details and connecting! Everything is pretty much hooked up except for the power steering, turns out we have such an early model of the engine that it was never made to accept power steering. SO, of course there's more parts that we need, but this should hopefully be the last surprise! We got some diesel in there, filled up all the fluids, connected the battery and a bunch of lights turned on right away, so that's a good sign. We ran out of time before we could fire it up, still need to bleed some lines so that will be this weekend's project. I got some of the interior body panels finished, we went with a solid black marine vinyl so that it would hold up well and handle our damp weather well. I played around with some stitching details for the door cards and decided on a pattern that I think will look nice and not be too busy. I'll just need to be careful about keeping the seams straight! It's getting so close now! Maybe we can get it running by my birthday at the end of February, I think that would be a good gift!

ordered some new battery trays, they're solid steel, much better than the rust riddled, barely holdling together original ones!

So we've been talking about maybe wrapping the car in the summer, the paint keeps chipping and I think once we've been driving it for a while it won't hold up. Mik likes the matte mint color, I kind of like the red/orange metallic, any votes for one or the other?

Do you know where I could get a set of those taillight guards?
I have the other style, and mine just seem like damage multipliers, if I got a set like yours, I'd weld them to the new rear bumper I need to make.

This may get my question ignored:doh:, but I vote for mint.

Fantastic progress, I wish my frame looked that nice.

The taillight covers were on the body that we bought, so I'm not sure where they came from. We were thinking about taking them off though because they rest on the lights, so if they get hit they will probably break the side lights. I think there's supposed to be a rubber piece thats missing. If u want them I could sell them pretty cheap :)

What if you just wrap it in clear to protect the paint?

We were just talking about that earlier this week, so good idea! The only problem is that it costs twice as much as the solid colors, so we figured if we're spending the time and money might as well go with a color. I dont think we'll do anything with it for a few months, so I'm sure I'll find more colors I want. It was really hard to pick the paint color in the first place!

Door Interior

We got hit by a freak snow storm, so we'll be spending the weekend huddled inside! But I'm trying to make the best of it and get the door panels finished. We changed it up a bit and did some diamond pleats in the middle, which I think makes it look a lot nicer. Time consuming, yes, but worth the effort! Here's the first one:

Yeah I wish just missed it, but on the other thanks to you guys and EBI I did get the correct thermostat housing installed and found out that you can cut the non-ps upper rad hose to fit 83+ thermo house setup.

I also printed up some Diesel only decals and painted the gas cap hopefully warn all the attendant in Oregon.

Finally Finished..for now!

That's right folks, we got to drive our car home this weekend!! Finally!! I'm sure it will be a work in progress for years, Mik can't stop fiddling and adding to it, but we've been driving it all over town the last few days and LOVING it!! We still have a few bugs to fix, seems to be running a little rich so we'll have to look into that sooner than later, and most definitely need bigger mirrors ASAP! It's one of those things that seems to work well until you start driving and you're squinting at a tiny circle trying to change lanes, hoping nobody is in your blind spot. All in all it's pretty minor changes needed considering how far we've taken it apart. Now for the glamour shots of our baby:
