Which Matt is that? I don't think I met him. I like that one of the emblem, may have to work that into a screensaver..

Heck, I thought that you Matt!

BTW Sam, I see you were able to source a tail light but what is the story with the PS door? Did it get a little warm last week?

Is adding A/C on the list before the next run?

It's the same tail light held in by gorilla tape. I took the doors off bc it gets stupid hot in there. I'm not putting them back on either. I like it much better with no doors. I'm going to order a set of tube doors and call it done. I'm ditching the A/C. Not worth the trouble.

Here's my list in no particular order:

Buy a trailer (This is def the top item on the list)

Tube doors (Will probably buy these pretty soon)

Longfields (Kind of on the back burner. I will do a knuckle rebuild at the same time with bearings so it's going to be $$$.)

P/S Cooler going to use an off the shelf trans cooler prob (240k mile pump + 37s + beatdown = pump screaming)

I'll add to the list as anything else pops into my head.

I bet those 37's do make it scream on their own. Didn't big Josh say he bought his tube doors from TG ? Those would be a nice addition.....better visibility, better airflow etc. And with those 37's I would think it only a matter of time before a snapped axel/birf.

I think big Josh bought his stuff from All Pro. The ones I'm looking at are from 4xInnovations (same place I got the cage). They have these awesome rotary latches that use the factory strikers.

I know people that have broken a birf on their first run and I also know people that have run factory birfs for 5+ years with no problem. So, it's on the list but it certainly won't stop me from wheeling. :wheel:

Yeah, with the knowledgable and capable people you wheel with a birf or axel wouldn't be too high on the list. Micheal or Brian probably carry enough spares around to do both of our truck. :bounce:

It sure gave me a piece of mind wheeling with you guys. Since I haven't HAD to get into my Axels/birfs and would be on a steep learning curve if I had to do it by myself on a trail. being around you guys sure is a lot better than wheeling with most of the locals who drive heep's and zuki's :bang:

Brian and I both have Longfields so we don't carry spare front axles.

You won't find Mike or Brian changing one on the trail either. If I break one, I'll be doing the dirty work. I'm sure they would be happy to supervise though. :wrench:

Absolutely, I wouldnt even ask for them to get dirty. Just Some helpful guidence would be enough.

Right side wiper (Didn't realize how important this was until I tried to turn right on a trail in the rain :bang:)

CB? The hand held I have is worthless. Might try to pick up one like Dan has. That thing is sweet.

And future, future upgrades:

Front bumper (Will probably have to buy a 2nd gen and modify it. UNLESS, Marlin actually builds the 1st gen they have been promising for about a year now...)

Winch (Will def be an Ironman 9500 with synthetic line. Those things are super sweet!)

Recommendation: skip the CB and go right to the 2M radio. Get your license and your call sign and talk to anyone on the planet via your rig. Seriously.

Wish the east coasters would move to 2M!!

;)

Looks expensive and I will VERY rarely use it. I only take my truck out a couple times a year. For my needs a CB setup in the $100 range will do just fine.

On that same note, if I was to build an expedition rig, I would include ham and probably also a CB. That's a long way off if it ever even happens.

Do like me and just stop by the CB shop at the nearest truck stop and have them hook you up. Mine came tuned and ready to go. About a buck fifty for antenna, CB and cigarette adapter. And I was hearing everybody on the mountain.

That's actually a pretty good idea. I have no idea how to tune one. There are also no shortage of opinions on how it should be installed. Maybe I'll buy the CB I want and get someone to put it in for me.

The guy at the TA I stopped at told me he would tune it for me before I left, and he did. I got it in west Knoxville on the way to Oliver Springs and just plugged it in and sat it on the console. He told me if it didn't preform to bring it back and he'd fix it, but it worked perfectly so I just went with it. Didn't touch anything but the on/off and volume.

Only downside to a proper tune is you will literally hear anyone within a few miles of you who is on that channel...

Looks like there is a run coming together for GMP in July. Also looks like I'm going since I volunteered myself to reserve the pavilion.

So, the only absolute must for the trip is to install the PS cooler. As hot as it is going to be I know that PS pump will be screamin. :steer:

So, here's my updated list for before the July run:

Rotate tires so the ones with better tread are on the back
PS cooler as stated above
Hose off some of the dirt from GSMTR
Install speakers? (Found a spot in the cab that I think I can mount some)

You should have that checklist knocked out before fathers day. I won't plan on the July run. As soon as I get back to work I will plan on a trip to ACC for wiring harness repair. Then just start the planning for November fall gathering.
