Trucks looking great, the duals are worth it in the end.
I also call my 83 dual cab lux frankie, as in frankenyota due to the same reason. All the different parts from other trucks lol

Matt

DANG now I have to change it! (J/K)

So now I'm on to putting the grille back in and somehow making the fan shroud fit... That's not going to be fun. :bang:

I haven't seen a picture, a video, nuthin' to support these claims.....

Oh, and congratulations!

Too tired/exhausted/relieved to take pics or vids. Will get some tomorrow.

Way to go Sam. Makes me even more disappointed that I won't make it this weekend.

You'll see it at GSMTR in a couple weeks. DTown is way too far for you for what it is anyway. (Does that make sense?)

Well, I went for a quick test drive to put some gas in the sled and we identified a couple of other things that need attention. The PS feed hose is leaking and looks like its about to pop. The steering box is not lined up correctly (two full turns one way and barely one turn the other way). And we installed some generic shifter boots to keep the heat out.

So... the truck isn't really done. But at least it's driveable.

PS hose should be a quick fix if you can get the right hose, yes?

Can the steering be corrected by moving the pittman arm maybe?

Yes and yes. Having trouble finding the correct size hose that will work for PS or trans tho.

Matt fixed the steering box. PS feed hose is hopefully on the way.

So are you gonna make it to the event for a shakedown or not? Only hours away now, eh?

Oh yeah. Getting ready to hook the trailer up to the 4Runner here in a bit and load the mini up.

We were going to go in the 4Runner regardless.

Finally got the truck loaded up. I'll try to get a lot of pictures tomorrow.

The truck did AWESOME at the shakedown. There were only a few times that I used the double low. It was pretty muddy and slick so momentum was more important on a lot of the trails. Everything functioned really well. I'm still having 2 problems which I believe may be related. It's nearly impossible to get the truck back into 2wd. Also the right side locking hub seems that it won't unlock.

I also took the wifey with me and she expressed her concern about me not having a cage. So that just moved to the top of the list. I'm going to see if I can get one before GSMTR but I think it's too late.

Congrats Sam; glad it held up well. That's too bad that you didn't get to "crawl" much, but gotta play the cards you're dealt. :steer:
I could be wrong, but I don't think those two issue are related. I've never dealt with a stuck hub, but all of my Toyota 4wd's have had issues getting back into 2wd. Seems like the more gearing you add, the worse the problem gets (ask me how I know ;)). For me, I've just gotten used to feathering the clutch, and sometimes hitting reverse, to assist the shift.

If you need to have a cage capable of saving your life, but not necessarily saving the truck, before GSMTR, I think that can be done pretty quick and easy. All you HAVE to have is one hoop over or behind the cab that's tied to the frame and braced well. In a roll, it'll save you, but not the truck. Good enough to be safe and keep :princess: happy. Go back later and add on, or even cut it off and start over - you won't have lost a lot of time or money. Not to volunteer someone else, but I'd bet, if you were at John's with a few helping hands, that simple "roll bar" could be done in an afternoon. :wrench:

Yeah I'm not sure what the plan is on the cage. I was thinking about ordering a pre-bent weld in cage but they take 3-4 weeks I think. The guy that made my drive shaft could do a custom cage but that's a lot more time and probably big bucks. I think John would probably help me out if I asked but he's pretty far from me.

Sorry Sam .. couldn't resist ..

Unfortunately I didn't really get any. I was busy "testing" the mini and the wifey was busy holding on for dear life.

I'm waiting to see if any of the other guys got any good ones. I'll post them up if I can find some.
