I will try to get some pics when the paint is finished. It's also not really good weather out right now. It's been raining off and on. Probably will be tomorrow.

The paint is done! Tan with black mirrors, door handles, etc. And in a 40 homage, we painted the roof white. :hillbilly:

Sorry for the terrible picture quality. I think my camera on my phone has just about had it. I'll try to get my good camera up here one day and take some glamorous poser shots.

Lovin it!

Now just paint those spoke wheels white to match and you will be ready to go. :)

I know where there is an early 80's pickup and, I think I may have said this before, but this thread makes it harder not to stop and see if it is for sale.:D

The :princess: would kill me if I bought another car that I don't have a place to put...

I'm getting these wheels actually

And, I'm pretty sure you can never have too many Toyotas. :D

Awesome paint!
I was thinking about painting the top of The Mule white like that when the time comes.
Of course, the rest of the truck will be Forest Green.

Thanks guys! It actually came out really good! Up close the truck is still pretty rough but it does look much better.

Chuck the white roof is my air conditioning since someone took the A/C off of this truck at some point. Everything is gone except the evaporator.

I have all the other junk, if you're interested.

For a 20R? How many millions is it worth?

I don't even know if I would be able to install it tho. I'm not sure if I explained the dilemma with the engine but this truck has a rebuilt engine from an unknown year truck but def pre-79. The power steering is mounted where the air pump should be and there are no threaded holes in the head where the p/s bracket is supposed to be. So, I don't even know if the holes are there for the bracket for the A/C. It was an option on the pre-79 trucks so it's possible.

I found this out when I tried to order a 1980 water pump and it had an extra hole. I ordered a couple of different ones before getting one for a 77-78 truck. I'm sure that's why they moved the p/s since there was no where to mount the bracket. There is also no place for a mechanical fuel pump in the head which I suspect is why this truck is sporting an electric version.

I just have the stock first-gen 22R stuff: pump, hoses, reservoir, condenser.

Yeah, with the funky block/head issues, you might not be able to work it. If you go 22R, then let me know. I have all this stuff on my truck, but I've never once had a use for it, because The Mule has a sun roof. I want it gone so I can find a way to move my alternator to where the AC pump is.

I'll keep that in mind. My 20R is pretty strong and was supposedly rebuilt recently. I'm convinced that it at least has low miles since it runs so well. When I have some time I'll check the block and the head and see if it has the threaded holes for the brackets.

The paint looks good but you stole my idea on the white roof so :flipoff2:

I'm actually thinking about painting my tan 1st gen 2nd gen brown with a white roof and white wagon wheels but I'm a lazy fawk and it will probably stay tan.

Keep up the good work :zilla:

Yeah I was gonna say I'm planing on lining my roof with white liner! Maybe this is coming back in style. :D

Interior floor and back panel sprayed with bedliner (Rustoleum) rattle can style.

WOW. I went and drove the beast to Target at lunch today. Holy steering wander Batman! Everything is worn out up front. I've already been thinking about converting to highsteer sometime after GSMTR. I've aquired an IFS box but it's leaking pretty badly so it will need a seal or two... or not. Anyway, anyone running the high steer kit from Marlin? Just curious how it was to install, how does it drive, etc.

FINALLY got my wheels ordered. The original ones I wanted (Pro Comp Series 52 Rock Crawler Wheel) were out of stock so I ordered my second choice:

Pro Comp Series 98. Nothing wrong with a little old school.

So, I have lots to update. And I'm going to take a bunch of pics when my wheels get here. I'm planning a big update that is going to be very pic heavy. Stay tuned!

I did determine that my rear driveshaft is SERIOUSLY bent. We were thinking it was u-joints because it was shaking really bad any time you get up to speed but I thought I remebered seeing a dent in it. Sure enough, it's bent and has a HUGE dent in the back part. I'll def need to get a driveshaft at some point. It's fine at low speeds tho so I'm going to leave it until after GSMTR.

Progress:

So the plan was to do the flares and upper half of the cab black. Once we started getting some paint on the truck that idea went out. I think the pillars are going to go back tan and the roof white. That will help keep me cool.

Great build!!!!!
I used a similar color on my 82.
