Seeing that I now have it, I went out and bought all the parts I could find that I will be needing to get it back to factory. As you can imagine this involves a lot of rubber, as rubber doesn't hold up to the climate on our side of the world. I apologize for the photo dump, but I thought everyone might enjoy seeing factory spares that aren't that easy to get in most places.

Dashboard, interior door panels, turn signals, sun visors
The turn signals(lenses) are especially clear. Where did you get them? Aftermarket, or OEM?

nice project; no expense spared i see. love the junkyard pics.

this junk yard cant even make a runner old bunky to cart their gas around and have to PUSH it?? that is HILARIOUS!!
The junkyard was epic, I told them I wasn't going to pay because they made me work for it and they agreed. Until I got in my car to drive off and they said where's the money I could have spent all day at the junk yard, so much fun stuff to poke my nose into

Back in the UAE after an eventful weekend in Muscat. Had to PPP into the workshop to see he progress.

it is now just a rolling chassis, I'll probably take it for sand blasting tomorrow thanks to Sebs suggestion. 750 dirhams for the whole chassis bs might as well. I also ordered all the gaskets etc for the engine today, a new radiator, engine mounts, transmission mounts, new air filter, and an engine oil cap as mine is missing one tooth.

In other news they have started prepping the body. The underside of the cab was coated and painted today, looks pretty good to me

They sprayed it with undercoating then painted it the tan that the whole truck will be. Going to give the footwells the same treatment from the inside so it is hard wearing without the need for rugs.

So the engine is off, transmission being cleaned up, and the chassis was sandblasted yesterday.

It looks infinitely different than when I first saw it coated in 35 years of gunk.

thanks to Seb for the tip on where to get it sand blasted, and for reminding me to cover the chassis number so it stays in existence

Next steps are painting the chassis black, engine being rebuilt with new gaskets (and painted gray with a silver top), and then the disk brake conversion and begin reassembly. I will also hopefully be installing power steering and a factory AC in the next few weeks if the parts reach on time.

Just stopped by, chassis has been coated, sprayed with what they call orange peel (same texture) and then painted.

looking pretty good to my untrained eye. I picked up my seats from the upholstery shop as the internal mechanism isn't there to support the headrests. So having the garage fab some up for me. Whilst seeing my seats "naked" for the first time I wanted to evaluate the possibility of buying new foam for them. Does anyone know the best place to buy pre formed foam for the fj45 bench seats with the driver side normal and the passengers side big enough for two? Thanks for the help

these are the only two pics i can find so far that i have kept .... blue one has the tubes... and there is one in the below picture that has them

Awesome! I've never noticed them on any other trucks before, but after the pics you shared & Bears input I feel they are factory accessory. I'm keeping them for sure

One way to verify the factory nature of it is to look closely at the bolts and nuts that are part of it... are they JIS hardware. The screw heads actually look like conventional Phillips, though they could have been replaced. That said, the uniformity of the tubes would argue that they were standard kit made by someone specifically for this application. Either way, I think you need to keep them and not only that you need to get a cover fabbed up for the rear. =)

Nice to see all that work/junkyard, I did not know your chassis has so many holes, guess my HJ is trying to get to that old skool state.
Why does the roadcheck guy bug me about retro style holes in the chassis? ;)

Ok so big apology for being MIA, I've been pretty caught up in life and carless thanks to the GMC dealership here being useless and my daily driver being out for the count. That being said I would say it was well worth the wait and I have a lot to show for the time that I've been away. They say that a picture is worth 1000 words so please enjoy the cruiser porn.

I was thinking the best way to remove them would be from inside the cab. Just drill two holes where they are spot welded. I spent a few days thinking about the easiest way. Was planning on just taking a cordless drill along and drill it out.

Anyway sorry had to let you rape that dead carcass.

Excuse my last comment. I thought I was commenting to the foot flaps. Turns out there was another page of comments. Bloody hell. Great work max. Can't wait to see her all back together.

Keep up the great work.

I don't know why mud isn't sending alerts. Need to check my settings again.

Working on rebuilding the carb

the seem to have seen better days.

The good news is my new car seat upholstery came in and while it might not be to some people's tastes, I think it is pretty beautiful. I'm currently in Qatar for a few days but when I'm back I'll go pick them up and show them off.
