Does anyone know what the stock colours for the later model (1978, in my case) Canadian LPKs' under-seat fuel tanks were? When I acquired the vehicle the tank was black, but it may have been stripped and painted at some point prior. Did the factory produce them in concurrence with the vehicle's paint scheme, or were all tanks produced in black? Would this colouring also apply to the tank hold-down straps? Judging by the condition and nature of the paint on my straps, I would wager that these were, indeed, painted black at the factory.

I would also welcome any opinions on the various fuel tank refurbishment processes available (boiling, sealing, &tc.) Personal experiences and anecdotes would be much appreciated.

Many thanks!

Don't know about other late vintage trucks like yours, but my tank is definitely the original blue (underneath the repaint that was applied to everything, including the wiring harness).

mine was black as well, 1967. I had mine sealed inside and out by a national Gas tank renew. I would have to look up cost, but it eas certainly cheaper than buying a new one. I came back it looked sort of like it had bed liner sprayed on it but once it was mounted it looked fine. that was a year ago and no problems what so ever. Hope this helps.

The tank in my 76 RHD is black, but since I know the whole cab was torn out and reassembled, there's know way of me sayin it started out that way.

The tanks in my 64 and 66 started out silver.

I had my 64 tank boiled out and resoldered last year. IT'S AWESOME. Cost me like $80 and I'd gladly pay it again next time I need one done.

There's some dude in NorCal that's got 3 NOS ones sitting on the shelf! Or so he says. ;p

all the late model FJ45's I've owned or chopped have all had black tanks

Cool, thanks for the replies everyone!

Yup.

so the late model ones are black
the early model ones are pewter
so what's the year/month that they change color??

I have 3 tanks sitting on the shelf from Toyota and they are black

Since those are replacement tanks, that still begs the question as to original color.
