Is there an Aisan sticker anywhere on it with a part number? Something like 21100-61032.

Does anyone know if this would drop right into my 55? The part numbers are different between a 40 and a 55 but I have no idea if that's a real material difference or not.

Pretty sure that would be Nov 23, 1977.

What I don't know is if there is any reason why that wouldn't work on my 55. Trying to figure that out though.

The hole in the base is for a thermal sensor that I believe was only used for Cali spec. So it might be slightly underjetted too. But rejetting is easy. I routinely rejet desmogged vehicles to ROW specs.
