Me? I'm liking that FJ55.
[He pauses to wipe drool off the floor...]

If you've got a Pig that looks that nice, you'll be able to deal with the challenges ahead.:wrench:

Me? I sold my Pig long ago, but the salty Midwest was never a happy hunting ground for 'em.:hillbilly:

You've got lots of good advice already. On the random chance I think of anything pertinent, I'll speak up. Looking forward to the build.

Out of curiosity, do you have pics of the old body being demo'd, and the chassis before adding the new skeletal structure?

Also curious about details of your axle.

Brian- You may be getting confused. I have not yet demo'd my pop up. You are probably referring to mschliebs post above. I would like to learn more about his work also. Looks real interesting and gives me some ideas...

Thanks Mike. :)

Pulled the pop up out of the garage finally.

Decided to begin teardown to see what I really need to address. I started by removing the propane tank. I will probably not use the old two-burner stove that takes up most of the counter inside. I'll typically be cooking outside and I think I may want more counter space.

Broke the first bolt I tried to remove... not a good sign.

Today's Craigslist score...

Propane furnace with thermostat, fire extinguisher with recessed mount, and a nifty plastic clothes hanger thingy. :)

All re-purposed from an early '90's pop up. Currently looking for a small RV fridge also...

I had an old Coleman pop-up. When I bought it the Canvas top was in ROUGH shape. I used Bear Creek Canvas | Pop-Up Camper Recanvasing Specialists | Spencer WI.. They do excellent work and have some different options for their tops such as tinted windows and zip up storm windows to cover the plastic windows on the inside. I told them what I had, and they made me a top that fit perfectly. If I recall I paid around $850 or so. Pricey but well worth it..

Steven

oh yeah, I am not affiliated with them, was just impressed with the quality of the new canvas..

Started to inspect/teardown the roof of the pop-up...

Here are a couple pics of the PO 'fixes'. Slapped some caulk on and called it good.

Peeled the first layer of old caulk off only to reveal another layer.

Got most of it done...

I believe there are a couple leaks in this roof. Here's one spot that needs attention, but there are a few others as well...

... and I need to mod the trailer slightly to fit these. :)

this is awesome, looking at a similar trailer and will watch this closely. Can you tell me how long the beds are?

thanks

Thanks! I just quickly measured the pop-up cushions that I have stored in the garage and the bed dimensions are roughly...

1. 50" x 72" (Slide out)
2. 30" x 72" (Slide out)
3. 38" x 72" (Gaucho seats/bed conversion)

Oh, and the pop-up 'box' itself is fairly small... 6' 8" wide by 7' 3" long. :)

Cheers, Carlos.

hi there, i just found one of these a couple weeks ago on craigs list and jumped on it right away!

Will be watching your build! My trailer will also be a kind of slow build! Life doesn't stop when you are headed to the garage right!!!

Good luck and post more

Post some pictures of that one opened up please.

I'll post some open pics but it'll take a little wile! It's really a pain to open it right now, I gotta do it with a pipe wrench or vise grips since the original stuff is broken!

Get outside- Rad! I really dig that old Coleman. I may be a bit biased though... :)

Nice score. What year? Looks like you'll be lifting it, etc. I can't wait to see what you do with it.

Unfortunately, I haven't worked on my pop-up much at all lately and therefore don't have much to report. Mostly web-research as well as staring at it with a beer in my hand. I'm still in that gathering info/parts/funds stage of the build. :)

Corprin- HA! Classic. ;)

rusty_tlc- Yes, please do. I'd love to compare it to mine...
