For sale is a 1976 FJ40 Landcruiser, mostly original with a very solid frame and moderately rusty body. Milage is 19268, not actual. Original 2f, and 4 speed H42, with power brakes and front discs. Purchased by me over 3 years ago, I have put time mostly into getting this Landcruiser mechanically reliable. The original plan was far a full frame off restoration, however currently being a renter with a small garage, this will not be possible for the foreseeable future. Overall the mechanical condition of the vehicle is good, it is a reliable driver and I would not hesitate to take it on a trip. Location is Boise, ID. Sale is cash only unless otherwise negotiated beforehand. Vehicle is on a clean Washington collector vehicle title.

Offered at $19,900 $19,000 $18,500
VIN is FJ40212917

The good:
  • Very solid frame with only surface rust
  • Solid driveline, a fantastic drivers' Landcruiser
  • Engine starts right up with no choke, runs strong with no smoke. 150 psi on all 6 cylinders.

The bad:
  • Rear cargo area floor badly rusted
  • Front drivers and passengers foot wells badly rusted
  • Transmission cover rusted in rear corners
  • Weber carb conversion, fully reversible with the correct OEM parts, runs excellent on road, not my favorite for offroad
All “New” or “Rebuilt” items are within 3 years or 1000 miles ago
  • Replaced valvetrain with good used set from 80's 2F.
  • Replaced valve stem seals with later model seals, got rid of older skirt seals, replaced pushrods

  • New OEM Toyota head gasket
  • New engine top end gaskets; water neck, lifter cover, valve cover, etc.
  • Replaced fuel tank with new OEM unit

  • New rear brake shoes, drums and hardware
  • Recent front brake calipers/ rotors and pads.
  • Rebuilt knuckles with cruiser outfitter parts
  • New rear wheel bearings
  • New front wheel bearings
  • Rebuilt transfer case with new OEM seals, new input gear, new output shaft, and complete overhaul kit, shimmed to correct bearing preload with OEM shims.
  • Replaced all seals in transmission, replaced input shaft, and output shaft bearings. All gears, counter shaft, reverse idler, all other bearings and shift forks in excellent condition.
  • Replaced front driveshaft with good used unit.
  • New U-joints on rear driveshaft
  • Less than 1000 miles on (5) super swamper radial 31x9.50 R15
  • New harmonic balancer
  • New tie rod ends, rebuilt steering idler arm (555 parts) new OEM rag joint
  • New alternator (napa)
Although there is no top on for the summer, a TROA dune beige soft top, OEM soft top bows, and the original doors are included. The doors are rusty on the bottom and the passenger side latch is very sticky, but they do function. The bows are in excellent condition.

I also have more than a full plastic bin of spare parts, some spare sheet metal parts (spare tire carrier, skid plate, late style air filter housing, OEM service lamp, OEM door replacement straps etc.) original service manuals, and a box of OEM and aftermarket gaskets I have accumulated that will be included in the sale.
