Looking for a pre smog 40 within 5 hour drive of San Diego County. So basically all of Socal to Vegas to Yuma.

Hardtop, no crazy amount of rust, running, no v8 swaps.

Budget is 11k firm, cant go over this.

I've been all over the forums, FB marketplace and craigslist. If anyone has any good leads on something not listed or something i missed let me know.

Most of mine I paid 15k or more ( 4 years ago), I just don't think there's going to be a rust free 40 with a hard top.. but I guess doesn't hurt to try
if you don't care and want a 236 3 speed maybe its out there

Im not looking for rust free. I am ok with surface rust. What i dont want is multiple basketball size holes or frame falling apart. I have no issue with rust or small holes that will need patching.

I'm on the hunt as well.. don't need pre-75, doesn't even have to be running but original engine and limited rust are high priority.
I'll post a '70 I looked at yesterday in SW CO, no top, but original engine and frame in excellent shape. Lots of bondo cracks all over, but again, frame, engine and tranny all in good shape. Guy's asking 14,500 but he'll come off it. Just not as much as I want him to:

I said $8k and he wasn't very happy. Somebody will buy it for between 10k and asking. It just won't be me. Don't even know why I was posting considering his attitude, but it's a cool rig looking for a new home.

They're out there for around that price, got mine for around that at the end of last year. Isn't "rust free" but there's nothing concerning....what you're describing, frame is good and if I wanted could easily patch what's there.
