Understand where ya coming from, but I would go with 78 79 setup with redhead steering gear 🤔🧐😉😘. More Retro than Prius ( which I know would handle it 😉) but redhead closer to stock🤔🧐😏😉. Or I could talk to someone or give contact info. He owns my 78 flatbed plow truck 🤔🧐😏😉
IMO ^^^^ this keep it simple !

I had 78 F250 on 36s back in the day turned them with out issue even aired down. can't say how it would be with a locker they weren't a thing yet 😂

36s were considered huge back then !! Like monster truck status. I remember them well Armstrong True Tracks on aluminum Turbine wheels.
I was only 19 and I bought the truck new.

And 78 Supercab custom total rebuild of plow truck with 400 and 4 speed granny😏🤔😉 Truck was a Powerhouse plowing never needed Granny 😲😳😮. Timing jumped at end of plowing season😪. Decided she treat me well I will treat her total rebuild 1 picture sorry 😏🤔😉😘 will post when i find

I was told the truck was running and driving, but I soon realized this was far from the truth. It ran terrible. I would get up to 10 mph and the carb would sputter, backfire, and buck the whole truck around the neighborhood. I could also see sediment in the fuel filters. I pulled the tank and fuel lines to clean them all out. Rinsed the tank out with some muriatic acid and neutralized it to kill any dormant rust.

I went through the Holley 4160 carb, ultrasonic cleaned it, and reassembled. Found out someone had RTV’d the metering block instead of using a proper gasket :bang:. I still have some fine tuning to do this weekend, chasing a small off idle hesitation, but it runs much smoother.

My truck came with the oddball low pinion closed knuckle dana 60 with drum brakes upfront. Parts are not easy to come by and there are no off the shelf disk brake conversion kits. I started looking on marketplace for a 78-79 f250 kingpin high pinion Dana 60. These axles are very sought after by off-road enthusiasts for ground clearance and ability to run 37-44 inch tires. This year range specifically is also a direct bolt on for a highboy. They command a premium, anywhere from 3k-3500 just for a core. I stumbled on a deal for one in OH, had to LTL ship it, but it was well worth the effort.

Is that a giant gas tank inside the cab...behind the rear seat?

most old trucks are set up this way. beats sitting on top of the tank like an fj40 imo haha
Still sucks to have the tank in the cab, later model dent sides have them under the bed.

Yea up to around 77’ was in cab tank. I really don’t have an issue with in cab tanks as long as they are maintained and have a proper vent. This tank is much easier to access than a 40 too, just fold down the rear seat. May add an aux tank to the rear at some point but for now this will do.
