1974 toyota landcruiser fj 40. original inline 6 cylinder, has not been cranked in 6 month, but was running well. needs body work and a top. 4 wheel drive works well.

I've been thru Round O....best damn crossroad you'll ever go thru....don't blink though you'll miss it!

Has anyone seen the 40 at Toyota of Greer? They're asking $16,900! I just laughed and walked away. They say that there's more than 16k in the restoration. What restoration? It looks great from a distance, but all that new blue paint went on over rust. They said make an offer...

mooker, did this guy get back with you? I sent an email and havent heard back from him.

I bought it.

I guess we'll see how it goes...

Pick up on Sunday.

16' trailer behind the hundy should be fun for 250mi. back to Williamston.

Assuming that is an original tailgate and it's not completely shot it would fetch a high price. Maybe $400-$500.

Nice find

If nothing else, it's a good starting point (I hope).

Hopefully I can get it running soon but mods and cosmetics will have to wait a while since J-Bo-Unborn and J-Bo-Wife will be top priority--we're due March 15.

I suppose I need to clean out the garage by the end of the week.:o

Thanks to you! I found it on this thread. Yeah, I figure even if it's junk, I can part it out for 1k or more. You think?

He finally responded to me with this,

"I still have the toyota however there is someone coming sunday who say's he is buying. There is several areas of rust on the left and right side of the body, all area's would not take much work. There is some rust under the drivers seat. The price is firm. If the buyer does not P/U the vehicle Sunday I will post more pics."

glad to see another cruiser comming to the club!!! I am watching a few off and on myself, but they have to be cheap and basically stock. The 40 I was looking at b/f was just too built for what I want/need. Its up for sale again by craptacular if anyone is interested.

I will def. be there Sun. to pick up. confirmed all info with him this afternoon.

So he didn't say it was broke...it just hasn't been cranked in 6 months. Should I take an extra battery with me and see how that works or just load it up and hit the road?

I wouldnt try to crank, may do more damage than it already has. I just hpe the rust isnt too bad for ya.

I keep toying around with all kinds of ideas on trucks and stuff.

We need a 80 or 100 for the kids. (Selling the wifes 97 4runner seems to make the most sense but I really dont know at this point.)
I would love a almost 40 for a DD, but love my 62 and dont know of a way to have both. Unless I sell my Chevy Wagon, which I dont really want to do, as its a cool ride to cruise in. (It does need a little work to bereal nice, but its a 3 on the tree and the wife doesnt really like that part.) I have a lead on a 60 that has a little less rust than my truck but more dents for $2500. Rebuilt 2f, mostly built, etc. But dont really think it would make sense to get another 60/62 as I have a little history with my 62. Although I feel like I am always at a crossroads on which direction I want to build it.

Even thought of selling my 62 and the wagon and buying a 100 and a 40? Who knows I am always seeing good "deals" and nice rigs that I think I would enjoy, but I finally have kept a few vehicles for 3-5 years and dont know if I want to or even need to let them go. (I think its always awesome to see guys who have owned their trucks for years and years.)

Sorry for the rant. :bounce:

I would not crank it unless I checked out everything beforehand. It would be best to attempt after you have changed the oil, checked the antifreeze, performed a tune up and DEFINATELY check the gas! If the gas has been in the tank for 6 months I would either attempt to crank using a gas line ran to a gas can or better yet pull and flush the tank and replace the lines.

When you pick it up I would bring:
1] Plenty of heavy duty tie downs.
2] Atleast 1 come-along or hand winch (2 would be better) or have access to a electric winch as sometimes it is very tough to push a truck up on a trailer.

I would also read over the links at: http://www.pirate4x4.com/tech/billavista/Towing/index.html
on securing a vehicle to the trailer.

Thanks! We have one come-along and plenty of tie downs.
