My brother-in-law is a fire fighter and was called up to fight the forest fire in the Columbia Gorge. Delayed any work on the 40 far several weeks. I used that time to work on small projects. Carved a rubber stopper to fit as floor drain plug because I could not find one.

Cleaned up the windshield channel dirt and rust. Painted a few small areas that needed it. Channel is in great shape.

Mounted the front bumper and painted the headrest black to match the seats with fabric paint. Looks good to me.

Painted the cap Cygnus White. Did not like the way it looked. Too much almond color for me especially for a dune beige 40. Looks like beige and lighter beige.

Decided to scuff and repaint Arctic white.

I think the Arctic White looks much better.

I remember catching a post or two on your progress in the ongoing weekly 40 thread; its nice to see everything in a continuous build. It helps you realize how much was accomplished over the past months. . . keep up the pace and you will have a complete truck sooner than you think despite what your thread title says!

My title is just acknowledging reality that you are never done with these rigs. There is always something else you can do to make it better.

Work continues on the hardtop sides to get ready for paint. Windshield is ready to go in. I enlisted my daughter and her friend to help with the install. It was challenging but we got it in and it looks good. The hardest parts were the corners and getting the lock strip in.

Beginning the reassembly process. This is where my bad job of labeling the pieces and parts, nuts and bolts is hurting me.

This is where I am at as of 11/9/2017. Currently, working on the top door frames and hardtop cap. And doing all the reassembly of the doors/windows, running boards, lights, emblems, weatherstrip, etc. I really like how the black bezel, bumper and bumperettes and dune beige body look together.

Got the hard part of the doors reassembly done today. Frustrating process. Had to put the together and take apart several times to get it right. Also painted the hardtop rim to protect from moisture and rust.

Put the weatherstripping on the doors. Hope to install those later this week. Installed the turn signals and side lights. Battery is dead so I did not get a chance to test them. Also put the Landcruiser badges on the sides. Installed the hardtop cap. Looking better and more complete everyday. Have a good chance to get to drive again on Thanksgiving weekend. Greatly looking forward to it. Have not driven the 40 since May 2017.

Got the doors mounted. Had trouble with the old weatherstripping. Ordered new OEM weatherstrip from Land Cruiser Parts. Got the hood bumpers and latches mounted. Lights are all working. Remaining issues - fuel gauge not working (bad ground?); spare tire carrier mounted; install weatherstrip on front doors and rear hatch door; mount rear emblems; repaint a few bumper areas that have some beige over spray on them. I'm so close to finishing I can taste it.

Parkrose Hardware in NE Portland. They have everything...nuts bolts, springs, stainless steel hardware, plastic, rubber...

Always like following a fellow '74. Great work, it's come a long way. True white looks like the way to go for the dune beige, it's a much better contrast.
