1972 Fj40

Anyone have any idea what motor may be in this Land Cruiser? The previous owner put it in from another Land Cruiser, but I'm not sure which year. How do I tell if it a 2F or F? Also, on the front end picture, what is the second alternator looking pulley on the lower right side of the belts? The truck is not at my house, so I can't get any other pics. Any info would be appreciated. Thank you.

If you look on the block next to the dizzy. There is a flat piece of the block with the engine serial number on it. That will tell you. FXXXXXX or 2FXXXXX

Check the numbers on the pad next to the distributor. If it is a F motor, the number will start with F, 2F will start out 2F.

Or a 74 F.
a.k.a 1.5F.

Normally, there is an oil filter there.

yep just like my 74 F

could be ...i'm betting it is definitly a 2F...because of all the 2F specific stuff on the engine...however he's using 2 alternators...the original position one from his old F and the later alternator bracket from a 2F

sooo with that strangeness anything is possible...but...i'm still going with 2F

Why would there be two alternators? Anyway, I think I am going to put it up for sale. I already have a '78 and really don't need another project. Let me know if anyone is interested. It is in Maryland.

PO's do all sorts of things to save money...he was probably thinking he can run his 2 kicker boxes powered by his 1200 watt kenwood exlon amplifier off of that alternator
