Hi,

I am selling my 1971 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40. I made a list of recent upgrades. I am looking for 29k , no low ballers. Its a 3 speed with brand new BF Goodrich tires that were just put on this car about 2 weeks ago. This thing is ready to drive, runs like a champ. Anyone who knows about these cars knows you don't see them everyday and extremely rare to come across in this good of condition. I also have the original bench seats / driver/ passenger seats, original gas tank . 29k OBO . Thank you for your time

You might want to remove the diamond plates so we can see what's lurking underneath. Is that a jeep top?

BTW check your bezel.

yeah, that's a lot of diamond plate for 30k. For that price i think people are expecting it to be rust free (not saying its not but that's usually why a rig has diamond plate on it) and have a hard top.

I'm no expert on the vehicles, yet; still learning. I do have a lot of experience with production techniques though. Some times things literally sound almost too good to be true; if you listen carefully.

If you want to sell it on this forum, you may want to do some homework and drop you price about 15-20k. Most people here are very informed buyers.

@antFJ you spelled stole wrong.

*seller NOT hating here but... know your audience / customer. Craigslist is where you might have some success. Best of luck!

the sad part is that he has a pretty nice truck. but the asking price is just way off. Honestly I wish people would stop paying 15k for trucks that need lots of work... I don't know if I'll ever be able to buy one again!

I normally do not comment on threads like this but:

$29,000 for----

Drum brakes front and rear
Likely worn out F motor as miles/compression not discussed
Diamond plate covering usual Land Cruiser rust spots
3 speed transmission
Coarse spline birfields
No hard top? For that price it should have one that's never been off.
Missing dash switches
Missing bumperettes?
Aftermarket seats-a good thing but not for someone who would pay $29,000 for original
Aftermarket wheels

It does look clean so that's a plus.

This is a $10,000 FJ40 on a good day. A very good day.

Everyone who spends $30,000 on a Land Cruiser thinks they have a $30,000 Land Cruiser. In reality, they have a $10,000 Land Cruiser and $20,000 of fun. It's normal.

I'd invite some low ballers, really.

I'd say $15K max on this one, however, some inexperienced buyers that are infatuated with 40s would probably pay $20K. Some 40 drivers see diamond plate as cruiser bling, and some cruisers have diamond plates over good solid body panels while many others are hiding their Swiss cheese body panels.

New to this blog,but correcting spelling of poor guy? I think the old FJ 40's are all a bit overpriced, seller will soon learn what he can get for vehicle or someone will give him asking price. Wish we could all be a little bit kinder to people.

I don't think anyone was being unkind, just merely calling it what it is. It's a nice truck, but not $30k nice, or even close to it.

And Farman wasn't correcting his spelling. It was in response to the link posted to an example of a MUCH nicer 40 that sold for $34k...misspelled "stole" as in it should have fetched a higher selling price. Get it?

All that said, it's pretty obvious the dude just created an account on here in hopes of flipping something for much more than it's worth. Right or wrong, I see no problem with people like that being run off. Ample opportunity to go overprice your stuff on eBay and Craigslist with a much better shot at getting it. Just my .02

@Gundi Welcome to MUD!:cheers:

Sorry you had to experience this unusual thread for your first posting, typically we are kinder and we love helping members. Please don't misunderstand what was said here.

yeh welcome to mud if you post love you get love.. if you post the stinky stuff your likely to get the stinky stuff.

And if you're a flipper trying to capitalize on a softening market and trying to sell to likely THE MOST INFORMED AUDIENCE POSSIBLE you're likely to get flipped... off... I'd say good luck with sale but I don't wish it, actually.
