ASKING PRICE $11,000 It is with much reservation that I have decided to sell my 1970 Toyota FJ40 Land Cruiser. I have taken on another FJ40 project and sadly, I don’t have room for two. This is a beautiful example of the early-mid run FJ40. Honest and mostly original, this Cruiser has not been badly hacked up or modified to make it something that it was not meant to be. It underwent a frame-on restoration 10-12 years ago by a previous owner and the restoration looks to be well done and it is holding up well. This is a factory soft top model so it has some rare and unique features that aren’t typically found on other FJ40’s (tailgate, dash light, etc.) Here’s a brief run-down of the Cruiser:
-Original F engine. Compression numbers are all above 150 psi and each cylinder within 10 percent. No smoke. No major leaks but it does leave a drip or two after being driven. Looks to be a weepy rear main seal.
-Original 3 speed transmission works and shifts well. Originally a 3-on-the-tree, conversion was made to put the shifter on the floor.
-Original vacuum assist four wheel drive works flawlessly. Front hubs are WARN lock-outs.
-Original drum brakes at all four wheels. Brakes work great and it stops straight. Parking brake holds fine.
-Many new steering components. Steering is nice and tight and steers straight as an arrow. This vehicle does not have power steering.
-Original suspension. Not lifted. Tires are like new 32” BFG AT on period aftermarket 15X10 white “wagon” wheels.
-Paint is nice and shiny but it is not perfect. It is very presentable.
-Floor pans were replaced by a previous owner and inside tub was sprayed with Rhino Lining.
-Original bench seat is long gone. ..replaced with comfortable modern buckets.
-Dash cluster works with the exception of the AMP gauge and the TEMP gauge. A more accurate TEMP gauge was added under the dash to replace the factory gauge.
Recent work on this FJ40 includes: New radiator, new thermostat, new battery, new steel gas tank, new 9500 lb. Superwinch (not pictured), new fusebox, new headlights, upgraded interior lighting, new headlight switch, newer seats and seat mount re-do, ammo can console. I added a front facing rear seat and three point belts for my kids but I would like to remove this to use on another project. I will leave it all in place for an additional $500.
