These rigs are really meant to be driven.

Gotta call late last night that there is a Cane Corso at risk of euthanasia 584 miles away in Virginia. So of course I jumped in Mavis this morning and head out to save a Good Boy.

I have no idea how I'm going to fit him in. No worries though.

The drive was beautiful for the first 10 hours.

That's Tennessee to Kentucky, to Virginia, to West Virginia and back to Virginia again.

And then s*** got real.

The last hour the skies opened and lightning struck nearby. And then flash floods threatened to sweep me off the little roads I was on. Found out later those signs I kept whipping past warned that I shouldn't drive there during rainstorms. Oops.

Saw a metric shed load of deer. At least a dozen males in velvet in one field and a conservative estimate of 100+ does with fawns scattered along the route. They were all moving due to the storms.

I'm hanging out in a hotel room, anxious to meet Zeus tomorrow morning.

Damn, I feel alive.
Thanks for saving the Cane Corso. They are truly great dogs when taught correctly.

So, I made the trip and saved the dog, but in some ways it was a close run thing.

Yesterday I started out early and put Google Maps on its "Really challenge my rig" setting.

Total mileage was 584. The route cut thru southern Kentucky, then Virginia, then West Virginia then Virginia again. Extremely scenic, until about an hour out when all hell broke loose, weather wise and the roads kept getting narrower and narrower.

Saw a gazillion deer. Arrived in Roanoke to find out that some of those roads I drove in on were closed during severe weather.

Stayed in a hotel for the night and picked up Zeus at 8. What a magnificent big boy

Zeus doesn't like men. Zeus also doesn't fit in the kennel in the back. So we got to spend the first hour of drive in full combat mode on the front seat. WTF was I thinking?

He settles down enough during the second hour to accept that maybe he would eat me later. First fuel break he decided to break my driver's side window because I left his direct view

Spent the next couple hours doing dominance behaviors alternated with attempting to jump out of the rig at highway speed.

Our interpersonal issues came to a head when he refused to get back into the rig after a potty break. The resultant donnybrook resulted in a minor case of canine heat exhaustion, thankfully ended with heavy rains which revived the pup. I just kept driving with the windows down and the sides up, offering him cool water. After that, he peacefully put his head on his paws and gazed at me lovingly. For the remaining 2 hours of the drive. He was safely delivered to a loving foster family, and kept checking in with me, and even raised a fuss when I left.

So now I need to find a driver's side window for my upcoming door restoration project.

“That gasoline smell, the whole driveway….Smells like a project”

Filled up the tank completely day before yesterday for the 1st time. Brought it home and parked in the driveway. Wasn’t long before I noticed 2.0 marking its territory. Now, I’m kinda partial to that summer day woodshed petro-chemical smell. The Mrs on the other hand, finds no charm in the Ode De La Shell station cologne. Decided to take the Mule on 20 mile jaunt around the county to burn off some excess high test. Cured the drip but the evidence still lingered in the cab. So, 2.0 spent the night airing out in the driveway.

Pretty sure it’s a loose hose clamp on the tank. Try to rectify the issue this afternoon by sacrificing a chicken sandwich to the patron saint(s) of driveway projects just to hedge my bets.
