If you look carefully at your pic, you’ll notice that the bushing that is higher in the pic has a ‘flat’ in its taper at the end closest to the taper of the spindle. The lower bushing does not have a flat. That is a sign that either the lower bushing is worn, OR (and I have seen this several times) the bushings came out of different kits.

Why? Because sometimes when two fresh bushings of a larger cross-section are installed in one center arm, the castle nut will not properly seat.

I was just explaining to @ToyotaMatt last week that I have seen at least three different versions of the early center arm. Different length spindles, different diameter castle nuts, different end caps/packing materials. :meh:
That’s interesting Mark; yes I see that now. So what’s the typical process of reassembly- find the right parts again just to make things fit? Do some folks update to a later style?

Cleaning up storage space in my iPhone I found a couple of pics of your TC vacuum pod:
Man you weren’t kidding. That’s weird; like sulfur. I wonder if it’s oxidation of a certain metal or coating.

IF ( and that’s the thing) you find a kit, don’t be surprised if you still end up reusing some of your old parts. I’ve got a bin box with some random felts in it; if something in there matches, you’re welcome to it.

I’ve never seen anyone try to ‘modernize’ their center arm: polishing a 💩. You’d have to start by welding a plate to the frame rail. At that point, it might as well be a Saginaw plate.

Well Merry Christmas to everyone. Got some more done in the last few days. Went through one of the Warn hubs and cleaned up the old paint, back to just aluminum finish. Got the other hub bearings in and knuckle cleaned up.
One of the hubs has a sheared off pin to the locking up. I got a carbide drill to get it out, and it was working but then the pin started spinning. Now I have a spinning pin I can’t get out. Anyone have any ideas? I want to weld a small rod to it but it may be too deep.

Thats probably a drill out and helicoil situation.

Thanks. It’s actually just a pin hole, not threaded. I got a bit that will drill the pin but now it’s spinning. It’s being a rascal. Haha

Ah, thought it was one of the hub bolts. Never seen one of those shear before. Seen plenty stuck, though.

you have about the same set up as me. Tires and the year. I look forward to seeing the progress

Hey guys- getting the front end wrapped up today, or so I thought. I looked up the torque of the retainer bolts, and saw 34 ft lb in a couple places. That seemed high to me so I did 20 ft lb which should be safe for an M8, and sure enough I busted one.
Am I off on torque here? Or maybe my bolts are shot…

I’ve been changing mine over, one vehicle at a time, since I had a set work loose on the Rubicon.

No. Archaic. I’d rather have a hardened bolt with a fresh lockwasher than a weak, non graded bolt with a wire through it.
When I bought mine, Toyota used to sell them…cheap. I told you how they ended up in my door hinges.😉
I have a box with about 300 used ones as well.

Ahh yes I remember. The spares.
Well I’m going to add some bolts to list then!
I’m just glad the bolt didn’t shear flush. At least I got it out easy.

And the price they quoted you was excellent too.😉
