In 1968 myself, Dad, and my brother went to the local Toyota dealer and bought a new 1968 FJ40 (red & white). We parked it at a Hunting lease near Post TX for the next 20 years while I grew from 12years old to 42. This is the LC that I learned how to drive a standard on. Hunted with Dad, Brother, Cousins (one that was killed in a car wreck when he was 18) Uncle (who passed away of heart failure at 42) and both Granddads. My dad sold it to a man in Matador, Tx for $500.00 10 years ago when he bought another 78LC. A month ago he ran across this man and just asked him if he still had it. He said yes - it was parked in his barn and it wasn't running. I was talking to dad a couple of days later and he mentioned this to me. I told dad to call him back and ask if he would take $500 for it. He called and the man said send him a check. Drove out and picked it up!! It is setting beside my house and now my two sons (17 & 20) are getting ready to restore it as money allows. Can't even begin to tell you how many memories I have driving in this landcruiser !! Just thrilled to own it.

Will be attaching pictures soon!!!

Kent :)

Great story.

welcome to MUD

Nice find...

Amazing how you found that truck again - post a few pictures would like to see it.

Welcome (back) to the madness. This will make a great story to tell your grandkids when you give them the keys and teach them to drive standard.

It was just an old hand me down 40
With 3 speed on the column and dent in the door
A young boy tow hands on the wheel
I cant replace the way it made me feel and
I would press that clutch
And I would keep it right
He would a little slower son
Your doing just fine
Just a dirt road with trash on each side
But I was Mario Andretti
When Daddy let me drive
Lyrics form Allen Jackson song. This song applies to anyone who grew up the way you did. Learning to how to drive and steer a boat.
Enjoy your memories cause only you can.

That is so cool. Hopefully you and your boys can get another 20 to 30 years of fun and work out of it. Good luck with it.
