I copied that from SOR.com. It's what I actually would like to have but I'm just afraid that the wheel wells and various other minor imperfect spots will look worse than if I picked another color. I agree with everyone about the 2-tone.

If you're gonna spend some money and put some real paint on it, any glossy paint is gonna show the imperfections. I wouldn't choose a color base on that.

i wouldn't worry about the color showing the imperfections. I'm not going to worry about it on mine so much

You said your budget for this project was tight. I would recommend getting it 100% mechanically sound as the #1 priority. Before you paint anything go an buy a bottle of McGuires Cleaner/Wax. It comes in a maroon bottle and is sold at the finer Wal Marts. Try to wax/buff the pain that is on it. You would be amazed how tuff that stuff is.

When I got 76 FJ it was power white with oxidation. While getting it mechanically sound I put my greasey hand on the fender and hood on accident. I wiped it off with some degrease and the smurf blue paint shined. I found the McGuire cleaner/wax and did my entire rig. It looks better than any Earl Shibe or Maaco $1000.00 paint job.

a darker red like a brick red looked great on a cruiser a friend painted they used an off white for the top...the best combo i had ever seen on a cruiser...the would look great to do a brick-red /off-white/brick-red combo :)

if you have imperfections to start then you don't feel so bad later when you get more :)

I agree with D'Animal. Get it running first unless your neighbors start complaining. Hit it with some wax and get the bugs worked out so you can enjoy cruising

awesome, I was going to start a "I passed a nice fj45 on a car carrier thread" Your Russian delivery guy was pulled over at the Maryland / Delaware I95 toll by a highway patrol officer. He was waving his paperwork in the air and yelling. Nice 45 by the way.

Funny about the car carrier getting pulled over. Cop must have been a TLCA member....

Truck is primer all around. Found a bunch of bondo inside on the pillars etc. Interior is going to be more work than I thought.

The outside is going to be a bit more than I thought too. There are all sorts of scratches, uneven spots, and bondo cracks. Looks like sanding will be more of a workout than I thought.

Living in new england the rust stoppage and prevention is #1. If I sink too much $$$$ into the engine etc then the body could rust out completely by the time I get more $$$$. Having an engine rebuilt in 2 years is much cheaper than having a rotisserie resto to remove gaping rust holes.

I started it today. Bit of ticking in the engine but I think it's just a valve. Nothing big. Fired right up. Headlights don't work and it desperately needs an oil change.

It's going in the garage tomorrow and sanding will start.

Anyone have any reviews on the new "smooth" Durabak? Looks interesting.

I'm goin with red on paint but that will be a while longer now.

I don't envy you east coast guys at all. Here on the west coast we just sand the rust off the surface, hit it with some cheap primer and we're done with no rust worries. At least that's how it is is Southern California.

Jsaltlick, keep them pics coming as you're working on it.

I sanded down the hood and a part of the gutter as the sun was going down and the wife had fallen asleep. I sprayed all the surface rust outside with primer (no sanding) just to seal it off. It's going to rain on Monday so I wanted to just stop the rust and I'll sand it all off next weekend.

I'll post some pics on Monday. I'm doing 24-7 next weekend and I want to sand the entire outside and do a thin coat of primer. I'll go back again and fix the bondo problems later. Headliner, rear seats, and carpet will be pulled out. Rims and tires should be here by Friday. Roundeyes should be here Monday. Foxfab is sending new door striker set. Busy weekend next weekend.

Anyone is welcome to fly in and help. I will provide beer and pretzels......

Cool! I'm going to scrape them and use some goof off or something this weekend. Drove it for the first time 10 mins ago. Runs nice!
