Hi!
I’m having an interesting time getting the FJ moving. Starts up, I put it in gear, pull foot off clutch and... doesn’t move, but still idles. I’ve attached a photo of the interior - please assist with how knobs, buttons, doohickeys, etc should be placed so I can determine my starting point with my beauty queen.

On a FJ40 I would check that handle on the dash. Pulling it all the way out should put it in low range. If it moves then the lever might not be going in far enough to get in high range and require some linkage adjustment. On a FJ I have no clue what that even is.

Lever on floor looks like a PTO lever.
71 has a transfer lever under the dash, with a tangerine sized knob. Not sure about older rigs like yours. Living in the Past will know. So long as you promise not to slander FJ40’s and call them FJ’s.
:D:cheers:

67' fj40 dash lever

It was moved to under the dash in the US with the 68 model and the padded dash. Have both the under the dash and on the dash and prefer the under dash. I reluctantly moved the high/low shifter to the floor in my 68 when I replaced the single lower dash to the two piece and cut the dash to put in a radio in the location it is on the 73+ models. A rod runs in the back of the dash in that location preventing the LHD under dash shifter with a radio. My 70 still has the stock setup and when I bought it I adjusted all the linkage and replaced the switch that operates the 4WD light on the dash. Everything work faultlessly. A lot less sluggish than the vacuum operated 4WD in the FJ62.

BigTom, you might want to consider buying the owner's manual and the Haynes repair manual--good info. how about some more pix of your queen? Does it have the actual winch or just the lever?

Has the winch! I love it and can’t wait to get the brakes sorted out so I can yank the top and enjoy driving it.

Question for the readers: what is the over/under on the bezel being correct?:hmm:

Is there a repair manual which goes back to 66? Only manual I can find is 68-82. Would that one work?

The bezel goes thick side up. But that won’t cause your running gear issue.

:-)

BIGTOM does your rig still have the clear lense bib markers and clear lense turn signals?

OEM Aisan carb?

I have a digital copy of a Factory Service Manual for a FJ25. My oldest paper FSM is for a 62. Have a number of manuals collected over the years including one for a 66 so I know they are out there.

They are a bunch of free to down load manuals here on Mud. Not sure if 66 is among them.

You probably have a '65 the windshield in your pic is a giveaway. The last year for the vented frame was '65 (I believe), do you have a std. top or one with corrugated sides?

Dyno

I would also put the floorboard rust/rot on the to do list; I think I see daylight in your one picture.

WOW! This level of expertise is incredible! I’ll get photos of this old girl for sure tomorrow. She’s titled as a 66, but I defer to the experts on this board. Holes on the floors? HA! Yeah, you all saw it and that’s one task that’s high on the list! I’d like to patch the floor temporarily and replace the tub when I can catch my breath. I’ll get the photos updated tomorrow. Thanks for the knowledge- very cool stuff
