I got home tonight and made it my mission in life to get one of the doors latching. I got the front drivers side latching :)

I think the pics say it all, there was some custom notching on the B pillar and the bear jaw plate to get everything to sit flush. I tacked that first plate in place and test fit the door, perfect. I then made a paper template of the part I was going to have to make, I think you can see that in the pics and then the metal one.

Fit my plate in there, tacked and welded in, ground all my welds flush. No primer yet, but once the primer is on, I think it will look like the door post always was that way.

I have no idea how good a stock latch works, but these I have now work sweet. It absolutely closes like a new door, just slowing swing it shut and double latches, love it.

Started on the driver rear, hopefully tomorrow I will get all the latches modified so thats done. Try to finish up that driver rear and get started on the other side.

Not a ton done tonight, but a little bit. Managed to get out there and keep working on that rear latch a little bit. I did finish mattifying all my latch mechs like I did the first one, but didn't take any pics of those for some reason. Same as the first one basicly, so not really much to show anyway.

Little different on the C pillar, had to cut a little more out of the pillar and nothing out of the bear jaw plate. Actually went pretty good, little easier on this one I think.

Reliefed the pillar, tacked in the plate. Installed the pin to make sure everything lined up and worked, which it did. Made a paper template of the part I wanted to make. Made the steel part and tacked it in. I actually welded a little more than the pics show, but I didn't get it done. The pillar was getting hot and I didn't want to warp it and it was getting late so I called it a night.

I don't know how much more I'm going to be able to post until sometime in October?? Leaving for a San Diego road trip on Thursday and I've got a ton of stuff to get ready before I leave, won't be back until the 4th, so....................????

Probably sneak in a little bit before I leave ;)

TJDIV and Cruiser Ken, thanks for the compliments :) I don't think I'm quite worthy of all your compliments, I'm just the average goober beating and welding metal together out in the shop. But, I'll take them anyway :D

Thanks, Matt

I'm actually really looking forward to getting those OEM fenders and meeting Cruiserdan himself :)

You're going to be VERY glad you did those latches. I guess.....well...spend 6 months with the old ones and you'd get real sick of the O.E.M.

Truth is, I really just like the fact that you're making it the way YOU want it. I know the actual execution of the work isn't rocket science, but putting your ideas from concept to creation is really wicked to watch.

That's the best part.

By the way since you're gonna meet Cruiserdan, I don't think anybody answered the question on Henry C., but Henry Cubillan is another well-respected Cruiser owner people look up to, maybe not for parts and OEM knowledge as C. Dan, but maybe for more expedition wheeling and general 4x4 and Cruiser knowledge.

Maybe some day I'll feel the need to do something similar to this project and get it done in a similar fashion, way to show how to GRD :grinpimp:

My wife would have killed me at like page 7.........

He's on the road at the moment.

that cruiser looks really familiar! :grinpimp:

i'm sooooo glad it ended up in the right hands and is getting the treatment/work it deserves. props. big props!
