Mike,

Glad to see you're still moving along - inspires me to get back in the garage. I'm trying to decide on a seam sealer and was leaning toward the SEM 2-part stuff?

Keep up the good work.

Gus

Thanks.

Yes, I think I should have paid the extra $$ and went with the 2 part stuff. I would think the 2-part will probably provide better and more consistent results.

Hey Skip, good to talk to you again. Just let me know when you want to come by to pick up the fenders.

I'm sure whatever you decide on the floor will work out. I guess its just how much time and effort you want to put into it. I'm full of ideas :D but my ideas are not always the best nor easiest way to accomplich something.

No pictures, but I did get a few things done this past weekend:
stripped the back of the cab and derusted a few spots. Metal was good and solid, but had a number of chips in the paint where small rust spots were starting.

Once I had it cleaned up, I shot it with some epoxy sealer, and then a couple coats of urethane surfacer.

Clearenced a floor brace to give just a little more room for the transfercase. Was worried that drivetrain movement might have caused some contact.

Worked some more on cleaning up the bottom of the cab, hope to have it in epoxy sealer this weekend. Still trying to decide on what to use to topcoat the underside of the cab floor. I'm leaning towards raptor but don't know if I want to shoot it black or tint to match color. If color, then I need to decide what color I'm going to paint the 45 and I'm still on the fence.

What did happen is sound boarding opened my eyes to a less complicated way to further my journey on the floor. I am looking for a shop or person around here that has a bead roller with a 18" throat and problem solved, already have it marked out. Will be in touch soon for the fender pick up. Best Skip

Love to try, the both of us on that machine= success have it all layed out not as wide as I thought, what does sunday look like for you if not, always the next weekend. I could pick up the fenders also..:

the bead roller frame and dies are in storage so let me dig those out and i'll get back to you. sunday might work but let me make sure I have all the roller parts in hand before you make the drive.

Mike, this is truly the "how to" thread for those of us looking to properly resto-mod our 45's. I definitely appreciate and am in awe with what you have accomplished with your truck. Hope you don't mind too much if I pick your brain and borrow a few ideas along the way as my rig gets her makover.

Steve

No problem at all, glad to provide what I can to help. Hit me with a PM or email if you want to talk.

My way of doing things is not always the best or "proper" way but hopefully it will give others inspiration to come up with better ideas and ways to build their rig or parts for it.

Are u coating the bottom? Like raptor or something underneath for sound deadening?

Sent from my phone using IH8MUD

Miker just wondering about your bead roller. could that be used for making the rear cab panel? I mean it would not be a deep recess or embossed like the oem panel but it could put a small step in the panel to mimic the look ?

an 18' throat would not be deep enough to recreate the back panel

got a few things done this weekend. finished cleaning up the underside of the cab, then shot it with epoxy sealer. once it was setup, used most of a tube of seam sealer to fill all the seams, the stock ones, and all the ones I created with the mods I've done to the floor. Once the seal sealer was set up, I shot the underside with some 2k urethane surfacer.

turned out pretty good, happy with the underside that no one will ever see.

Also, worked on the drivers side of the cab, it had suffered some damage befor I got it and I had it close to straight, but needed a little more bumping and then got it scuffed with some 80 grit, put on a thin coat of Rage Gold, and then block sanded it down, and finished it up with 2 coats of the 2k surfacer. Looks pretty straight now.
